Since then, A Red Circle has been working very hard with our community partners to create space to allow for increased healthy food access, agricultural education, and community-based jobs for youth. The project is called the North County Agricultural Education Center ("NCAEC") and we are getting closer to making the concept a reality!
In 2020, we have plans to increase our nutrition education to expectant and new moms to help combat the infant-maternal mortality epidemic, to Black women in North County, where the rate of death from breast cancer is the highest in the country, and to residents in Pine Lawn, to culturally engage the community on the NCAEC. It is not fair to educate community members on nutrition when their neighborhood closely resembles the top half of the meme above. We must improve healthy food access in areas that are food swamps if we want to see real change. With your support, we can build out the NCAEC and begin planting delicious fruits and vegetables by April, 2020!
