Thank you for 2019!

The Holiday season is almost here! Before you head towards the end of the year celebrations, take a few minutes to read the latest AR news from us.

Augmented Reality for banking

Fintech is the word of today! Our latest AR use case is a banking application introduced at the 2019 Fintech Taipei by Hua Nan Bank. The app allows you to access accounts and make transfers safely. With the help of pico flexx camera on top of Epson’s smartglasses, we made the app easy to control with gestures. Only the person wearing the glasses can see the data and make the selections. It is impossible for anyone else to spy on you. Others see you only tapping your fingers in the air so it’s super safe to operate even in public places. AR is a technology to be taken seriously when planning for future banking services, and as the studies say, early adopters gain the most benefits.

The power of 3D interaction to all AR smartglasses

We just finalized integrating the pmd's pico flexx camera to Android and Moverio OS -based smartglasses! Why? Because along with our tools, the Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras enable efficient 3D finger detection for AR devices but many smartglasses don't yet come with that option. We wanted to make sure we can offer the most intuitive interaction for our applications and make sure you have the same options for your AR applications.

Creating a better UX for AR apps

How to develop better smartglasses and applications for them? Digitimes, a Taiwan based technology publication, organized a smartglasses technology and applications seminar on December 6th. The event focused on sharing the latest research reports and new ideas about smartglasses development. We had the privilege to talk about how to create the best UX for smartglasses and were happy to share our insights about efficient interaction methods. In a nutshell, it is about enabling interaction in the ways that match the end-users needs, the use case and the environment. Using smartglasses has to be easy, nonstrenuous and the learning curve to start with new apps short. Keep it simple, that’ll take you a long way.

Happy to share more ideas with you, contact us and let’s chat more.

What’s the best place to hunt for ARVR information?

Our calendar has been packed with bigger and smaller ARVR and industry events during this autumn. Thank you for coming to meet us! It has been cool to notice that the number of knowledgeable visitors i.e. those that are more or less familiar with the tech is growing over those who have had little previous contact with AR topics. It would be easy to jump to a conclusion that this is somewhat in line with for example the research company Gartner dropping AR off the hype cycle earlier this year. The reason: AR is not an emerging but now a mature technology.

In the September Japan match-making events, we got a lot of attention from the local enterprise visitors. AR was clearly a hot topic there. Having a modern industry and higher labor costs, many Japanese companies are looking to speed up digitization efforts. AR as a concrete productivity tool and as one of the key techs of industry 4.0 fits this demand accurately. We are lucky to have one of our founders located in Kyoto and have every intention of attending many more key events in Japan during 2020. Looking forward to meeting you there.

Stay tuned to our social media channels below to hear about new events.

AWE in Munich is one of the key XR professionals events in Europe. An interesting piece of information from the October 2019 event: there were at least six Finnish ARVR exhibitors, including Varjo and our colleagues from Immersal, Arilyn, Dispelix, and Glue. This is one of the proofs that the level of ARVR technology development and expertise in Finland is quite unique!

Let’s plan for 2020

The amount of ARVR related events like expos, summits, conferences, and workshops that are currently available or planned around the world, is abundant. One can only attend a small part of the events out there so the question is, how do you choose the right ones? Let’s have a small poll. If you are looking for information about enterprise ARVR solutions, which types of events do you think work the best for you:

Small industry-specific workshops and seminars
ARVR conferences and seminars with expert lectures
Large ARVR dedicated expos with keynote speakers
Major technology expos

Thanks for helping us plan the 2020 event calendar!
