Since 1974, the Student Press Law Center has been steadfast in our mission to defend, support and promote the First Amendment rights of student journalists and their advisers.
Journalists fight for truth and hold power accountable, and the role of students journalists has never been more crucial. With the profession of journalism in the midst of an economic crisis and the news media under attack as "an enemy of the people," student journalists are filling gaps in local coverage.
The Student Press Law Center provides support and training, as well as a free legal hotline, to enable young journalists to answer all kinds of questions and, when the need arises, to confront censorship, self-censorship and even retaliation.
We need your support to help student journalists continue to report important stories, and to encourage the potential and promise of the next generation of brave journalists.
