Join Us at EdFEST  (reminder)
Join OSSE and My School DC at EdFEST – the District’s annual public school fair – on Saturday, Dec. 14, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the DC Armory. Students and families can meet representatives from all public and public charter schools in the District that serve pre-K3 through grade 12. With the launch of the public school lottery application on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 for the 2020-21 school year, EdFEST is a timely event to help students and families make informed choices.
Interpretation in American Sign Language, Spanish, Amharic, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and French are available throughout the day. Admission and parking are free.
 
Interested in supporting EdFEST? Register to volunteer with us! This is also a great opportunity for high school students to acquire community service hours.

If you work with young children in any capacity, or care about early childhood educators, we invite you to join nearly 4,000 early childhood professionals at DC's Early Childhood Summit: Brighter Futures Start Here on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road NW.
 
Highlights include:
  • Free registration including swag bag, breakfast and lunch;
  • Keynote session: Building Your Bounce: 23 Questions That Can Change the Way You Look at Life!;
  • Conference mobile app with social networking and conference details;

Application Closing Soon for High School Student Video Journalism Program with PBS News Hour  (reminder)
The PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs Homegrown Fellowship gives students in the Washington, DC area an opportunity to learn about video journalism from industry professionals. During this six-month, all-expenses-paid program––culminating in a premiere during the spring––students work on video journalism skills, such as operating a camera, setting up audio and lighting, and editing video. This year, fellows will create short video profiles of young voters whose stories exemplify their communities.
 
This one-pager includes the scope of the program, including dates and eligibility to share with students and community members.
