Virtue of the week:

GENEROSITY
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hi Team

We are in the final sprint and can see the finish line.

A brief snapshot of the last week:

Finale Concert: Sensational and an outstanding evening for MHPS and music in Public Schools. Thanks Katie and the volunteers!

Carols in the Park: Once again Katie backed up a huge week on Sunday evening with a huge performance by our choir at the Mount Hawthorn Community Carols, which is such a popular and well attended event.

Leederville Arts: A festival of everything Italian and MHPS. Thanks Anne and Karen W

Kindy and PP Induction: 100 new students feeding the MHPS machine . Thanks Cailie, Kaye, ECE Team and the wonderful Student Councillors and IMSS Students who performed on the two nights.

Curriculum Leaders Meeting: The Team are currently shaping the first Two PL Days and will be consulting with teams for agenda items that will hit the mark.

Philippines Donations: I appreciate the support and it’s great to see resources going to a good home.

Bring on Week 9 as the pace gets hotter with Edudance Concerts and Year 6 Graduation (Speech 54). The story of the arrival and departure of my Table Tennis/ Ping Pong table will go into the history books and has made Marjorie smile (finally)!

Furniture/ Moving: Jen Meyer is all over the furniture requirements for 2020. Clarity around a moving timeline and classrooms due for painting and carpets will be a priority. Please understand the movement of furniture and resources will be done with negotiations and there is no expectation of any heavy lifting from staff members.

EDUDANCE
See attached the rehearsal times for concert days (+ in pigeon holes) and any DOTT changes needed to accommodate in Red. Seating plan and order of proceedings will occur on day. Rehearsals now in Hangar. All classes must be seated by 1:50pm.

Year 3, 4 and 5 classes bring out chairs for parent seating on their scheduled day straight after lunch (1:40pm) (Lorena)

HOT WEATHER POLICY
I appreciate the common sense approach and given the forecast it may be pertinent on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  The Junior Block has worked really well and we are tweaking the Senior Block. There should be no students in classrooms in the Senior Block without a teacher present.

SENIOR HOT WEATHER

Recess: As normal - advise students to keep in shaded areas with minimal activity.

Lunch 1: All students in eating area (back to undercover probably now as Edudance practice will move to Hangar)

Lunch 2: (Oval, basketball courts and top playground) Areas of full sun closed.

Area 1: Music Room open - quiet reading or watch video (cannot access Library due to junior classes in there most days.)

Area 2:  Hangar, verandah areas, no ball games or active play on verandahs.

Area 3: Undercover areas (as per usual) in shaded areas.

Students are not to be in any classroom unsupervised. If teachers offering open classrooms, they must stay and supervise the entire time and only their students (no visitors). It is not the responsibility of Hangar duty teacher to check in on classrooms.

GRADUATION
Staff members who are helping at the Year 6 Graduation on Thursday 12 December need to arrive at the Churchlands Auditorium at 6.00pm please. Students will arrive at 6.45pm.

CURRICULUM / TEAM LEADERS 2020
Dale and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the staff that have taken on leadership roles this year. Through their leadership, we have seen some real gains in terms of curriculum implementation, program delivery and facilitating collaborative and effective teams. All leaders have been positive about their experiences and opportunities and all are well placed to continue in their roles, however, in the interest of supporting a transparent process, we are offering these opportunities again to interested staff. If you have any interest in leadership and/or  specific curriculum areas, please make a time to meet with Dale and Lorena to register your interest and engage in a discussion about the roles and responsibilities that align with these roles. We are still defining the resourcing that will support these leaders but we can share what we know currently.

STAFF SURVEY RESULTS - TRADE OFF
Thank you for participating in the recent survey to determine the trade-off model for 2020. As presented to Curriculum and team leaders last Tuesday, the majority of staff voted to trade-off the 2 days and add the 11 hours to the PL schedule next year. We will discuss this model with support staff at a later date or during their PM meetings.
Thanks, Lorena

FURNITURE 2020
Furniture removal and the arrival of any additional furniture will commence next Monday. I will email staff if they are receiving extra desks and chairs due to increased student numbers. Please ensure that you are ready for the extra furniture when it arrives. We have one stand up desk available so please let me know if you would like it.
Thanks, Jen Meyer
