Hi everyone!  I had this email newsletter all queued up to send out last week, and it queued up but never went anywhere, and I only realised today.  So some of this information will seem very last minute.  Apologies from Rae!
Hi everyone, our last week of classes is 5 December.  Our end of year social picnic is 12 December.  It's at Wainoni Park North, Greenhithe. Picnic details below.
PICNIC DETAILS HERE
Take a look at some term 4 class presentations on 5.12.19:

Last day of term soon, and you're invited to take a look on the last day at what the classes have been doing.

Check out:

Jazz Juniors - a short performance at 10:50am, in the Gymnasium
Dance Explore - a short performance at 11:40am, in the Gymnasium
Drama - join us at 2:30pm in the end room behind the coffee shop (the mirror room) to be awed by our very creative drama students

All of these classes will continue next term, so come along and check them out if you're interested ...
On Thursday, there will be a LOST PROPERTY table in the foyer.  On this table will be everything that's been picked up over the term and poked into the back of a cupboard somewhere.  We don't have any spare storage space, and sometimes we actually manage to lose the lost property that we find!  But, we will bring out everything we've accumulated, so please take a look ...

MARKET DAY

YES, Market Day is going ahead, on the last week of classes (5.12.19).  The weather looks like it might be okay-ish, but chance of a light shower in the morning.  SO, the room behind the coffee shop is free for market stalls from 11am to 12:30pm.  Set yourselves up in there - if you're in classes, put out an honesty box or ask a nice parent to mind your stall.  Please remember that this is a day with classes operating, so we can't set up in the foyer areas as we usually do.

If you need a table to sell from, you will need to bring your own.  There are definitely NO spare tables around.

Space will be limited in the room, so if you want to book a space inside (from 11am to 12:30pm), you will need to use the red button below.  If you want to set up outside, you don't need to book.

Sell anything, as long as it's legal  :)
MARKET DAY INSIDE BOOKINGS HERE
Our term 1, 2020 is nearly ready - just a few little things to finalise, and then we're good to go.  Watch out for a newsletter soon, with class details and booking dates.

My challenge for next term has been trying to visualise what our venue will look like when the old library space is being used again.  When we know for sure what community space we can use in there, it's going to open up the way for more new opportunities and expansion in term 2 without feeling crowded.

In the meantime, I'm mindful of our families with young children who need a space to set up toys where they can play.  I'm guessing the new tenants in the library space won't want a play area outside the main door :)  So next term we will organise our pop up playgroup outside, with some shade provided.  However there will be a room set aside during our busiest time (11am to 12:30pm) for families to hang out in if they would prefer to be inside. There's also a space behind the venue (which Sarah uses for her classes sometimes) which could be used as a play area, as there's more shade there.  We'll have to wing it for a while, and I think we've got really good at doing that, through the disruption of the library moving and the group growing so much.  We've managed to find solutions and make the best use of the space we have.  This speaks so much to the co-operative spirit and resourcefulness of our wonderful families.

We are looking at having around 42 classes in term 1, 2020.

Sarah is back with two classes of science based fun for the 5+ group.

Sandy is teaching two Science classes (7-9 & 9-11) with the comprehensive science resources from House of Science. Following the NZ curriculum for science with lots of hands on experiments along the way.

5 YMCA classes - Mini Gym, Gym L1, Gym L2, Basketball 9+ (with an awesome new basketball coach) & Fit Kids.

Bayley (Brain Play) is bringing 4 computer classes - 3D Design & Printing for 13+, Minecraft Club for 9+, Lego Creations for 5+ and Electronics for 8-11 (think micro-controllers, coding, programmable boards & taking a look inside computers)

Nikki (Creative Matters) has 4 visual art classes - studying Abstract Art.   Exploring and experimenting with abstract ideas and mark making, using a variety of techniques, tools and materials to create a number of 3D & 2D abstract works.  3 classes for 8+ and a class for 13+.

Cindy brings two magical Art Play classes for 5+.

Tegan is running 4 dance classes - Jazz Juniors, Dance Explore for 5-7, Little Dancers (free class for under 5s) and Ballet Magic for 5-7.

Our fearless & inspiring Scout Leaders (Angela & Monica) are back with TWO classes of Outdoor Adventures!  Term 4 students will have first pick to move on up to a Level 2 class and we will run the original Outdoor Adventures class (8+) again.

Biology with Leigh - the topic is "Inheritance". This class will cover as much of the Level 1 Biology standard on genetic variation as possible within the term. Aimed at 13+ or those who completed Leigh's earlier Biology of Life class.

Lucy's Teens Who Write (13+) is back, along with Journaling and one other class (still deciding).

More Polymer and Jewellery Making options with Annelli.

Shyla (INITIALIZE - Drama Based Youth Development) returns with two drama classes, for 8-11 and 12+.

The art of creating Friendship Bracelets with Lizzie.

Little Crafters with Jess returns, this time with more spaces for under 5s.

Karate Pete's back with Bees (beginners), Grasshoppers (intermediate) and Tigers (advanced).  If you have a karate beginner and interested in joining the karate programme in term 1, please have a talk to Pete at Karate Bees time (11am in the Gymnasium).

We're working on a couple more options, to be announced/confirmed soon.

For our under 5s, we're hoping to have Story Time and also a Free Play time down on the Futsal court
(which is contained by a nice big fence and where they can do some fun active stuff ...)  Specifically for this age group there will also be Mini Gym, Little Crafters and a free 15 minute dance fun class with Tegan (Little Dancers).

I look forward to presenting the entire programme to you all soon, and hope there's something in there for everyone.

A request from the YMCA - please remind your children that the Massey Leisure Centre is a shared public space.  It is SO tempting to run inside - but please can you ask your children to WALK. Bouncing balls, scooters & running are for outside.  There are elderly people who use the space also and who need to feel safe.  Thanks  :)
Please remember that if your child has any special needs, or is struggling with being in a class for any reason, we need to know.  Being aware of any issues helps us to help your child.
Call me (Rae) on 0272209949 to discuss, and I can liaise with the tutors, or email me at:  thehomeschoolgroup@gmail.com
