As the last days of term approach I am sure you are looking forward to a well-earned break with whānau and friends.
In this last email of the year we congratulate the 2019 Ernest Duncan award winners We also give a huge shout out to all those involved in bringing us the annual Maths & Calculus and Statistics days also the University of Auckland and AUT for sharing their venues. More than 500 teachers attended the days and enjoyed a day of learning catching up with old friends and making new ones. If you are looking for links to the resources they are being added to the websites as they are received from the presenters. They can also be accessed via the AMA Website.
Holiday reading
I have a pile of books to finish  reading over summer.  Among them is Russel Bishop's Teaching to the North East  and Tabitha Leonard's  Deepen Teacher Inquiry. Both these authors have challenged my thinking , provided some aha moments in different ways.

If you are after shorter professional reads the Education Hub offers a growing resource of articles and reports linking practice to theory.

If you prefer to lie in the sun and listen then make maths moments that matter podcasts have a few gems

For a bit of mathsy pre christmas fun the folks at Mathigon are sharing a series of 24 daily puzzles online. Join Mathigon on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to take part . Solutions will be published the following day at http://ow.ly/yRrF50xfOtu
Looking to 2020

AMA Saturday mornings will be back in Term 1 2020 along with the AGM. There are many ways to get involved with AMA, including hosting or leading a local cluster, special interest group, sharing your expertise and resources through events, online, clusters or in a special interest group and joining the executive. Get in touch and let us know how you would like to be involved.

The famous primary seminar day is being held on international maths day, Saturday 14th March. If it is anything like last years event there will be plenty on offer to interest secondary maths teachers. Keep an eye out for details in the new year.
