RACE NIGHT: This was a huge success for the branch. Thanks to the organisers, sponsors, punters, musicians. And a special thanks to the M.C. David Marks, who entertained us throughout the night and gave us his services for free (yet again).
WINTER SCHOOL: 17-19th January. This is the highlight of our year, when we bring over top-class musicians from Ireland to perform and teach. The weekend begins on the Friday with a fabulous concert in the Couper Institute, featuring the tutors and 3 of our bands, beginners’, intermediate and advanced. On Saturday and Sunday, we have workshops in Woodfarm, 11-1 and 2-4 (£5 per class, £50 family maximum). Classes suitable for all except beginners. On Saturday evening we have a seisiun mor (big session).
TUTORS (SO FAR): FIDDLE – Maggie Maguire and Lydia Warnock. FLUTE – Oisin McCann. BUTTON ACC – Micky Curran. PIANO ACC – Ryan Hackett. BANJO – George McAdam. CONCERTINA – Colm McGonigle. WHISTLE – Roisin McNulty.
BAND TUNES FOR CONCERT: Beginners – Dawning of the Day; Terry Teahans + Kerry Polka. Intermediate – My Darling Asleep + Jimmy Wards: Little Diamond + Ballyhoura Mountains. Advanced (14-18 group) – ask Patricia. Finale Tunes – Gravel Walk, Foxhunter’s (G and A), Bucks of Oranmore.
CHERISH THE LADIES are playing in the Concert Hall on Tuesday, 28th January. As it is our tutors’ night out, St. Roch’s will be cancelled. On the morning of the 28th, Our 14-18 group will be performing at the Celtic Connections schools’ concert in the Concert Hall. They will be supported by Cherish the Ladies.
BAND AUDITIONS: Saturday, 1st February, in Woodfarm. In preparation for the Glasgow Feis (23rd February), we will audition for U12A, B and C bands. No audition needed for U12D (anyone playing at least a year) and U12E band (beginners). U15A and U15B will be chosen by audition. U15C will not require an audition. U18’s will be auditioned on Tuesday, 4th February in St. Roch’s. Parents, if your child is auditioning for an A band, please ensure they know B and C band tunes. Names of tunes will be issued in January edition of the newsletter.

FIRST CLASS OF 2020: Tuesday, 7th January.
