Installation of Canons and DDO
Bishop Martin installed three new Honorary Canons in Chichester Cathedral on the first Sunday in Advent, 01 December to recognise the contribution that they make to the apostolic life of the diocese. They are Nigel Mason, Mark Standen, and Kathryn Winslow. Also licensed was Keir Shreeves to the role of Diocesan Director of Ordinands.
Revd Dr Keir Shreeves was also licensed into his role as Diocesan Director of Ordinands.
The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Sophie Rebecca Jelley, Mphil, BA to the Suffragan See of Doncaster, in the Diocese of Sheffield.
Sophie grew up in Brighton and became vicar at St Andrew's Burgess Hill in 2010. She was appointed Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands in 2013 in addition to her role. She left the diocese for Durham in 2015. We are so proud of her!
The Revd Canon Martin Lane, Chair of the Diocesan Advisory Committee, has decided to step down from this role after 3 years in order to focus on his parochial ministry. Martin says: “It has been a privilege to serve on the DAC with such a great team of people. I have enjoyed being part of the process, enabling our church buildings to be the places they are meant to be, serving the mission of the Church in Sussex.”
Information about the process to appoint a successor for this vital role will be communicated in due course.
2020-2025 Strategy
In 2015 a new five-year diocesan strategy was launched. As the five years draw to an end we have been consulting on the strategic focus for the next five years, building on the last five. That consultation has led to a new Vision for Growth 2020-2025, under which we will strive to be:
As a diocese, one way in which we are engaging with #followthestar, is by sharing what Advent means to us through reflections. These reflections are being published on our social platforms (links below) and website. The first Sunday in Advent, 1st December was written by Archdeacon Fiona. We are thrilled with the responses, the shares, and retweets. Please do continue to share these reflections in your networks.
Yes there is room in the inn!
A parish in Felpham plans to be open to offer people a place to be over Christmas. St Mary’s Centre will be open 72 hours over Christmas. A place to come and be with others. Serving food, watch dvds, have space for family’s to play and a cafe running the whole time. We are seeking volunteers to help. Especially men for the night shifts.
The recent 10th Anniversary celebrations of FHL in London and Coventry were moving with Bishop Michael Langrish commenting, “If ever Christians in the Holy Land needed friends that time is now.” Our Diocesan ‘Ambassador’ , Fr Nigel Prior (Vicar of Mayfield) would be delighted if you could consider a special Christmas collection to support specific projects (visit www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk) which your Parish may relate to best.
