Join us TOMORROW for our annual Holiday Networking Event on December 11th!

Join us tomorrow for an evening of holiday treats, snacks, networking, and wine! We are asking that each attendee bring an appetizer or treat that has been a tradition in their family or culture. Suggested items to bring are: Cookies, baklava, pan dulce, pumpkin pie, mini quiche, tamales, cupcakes, or anything else small you would like to share around. Feel free to print out a recipe too! We have a tasting room reserved for us and will be providing wine and non-alcoholic drinks.

We will also have wine-themed crafts if you need to make a last-minute gift for someone!

The event will be held on December 11th from 6-8 PM at Peace Water Winery, 747 N College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.

As always, you need not be an engineer nor a woman to attend our events! We encourage anyone and everyone to join us if you are interested :).

SWE-CI + AIAA TechTalk Event Recap

On Tuesday Oct 29, SWE-CI and AIAA Indianapolis teamed up to bring you a technical talk where over 50 attendees heard from government officials and industry experts on the subject of space research on the International Space Station (ISS).

Attendees discovered how the state of Indiana is helping to improve life on Earth through space-based research on board the ISS and networked with professionals from around the area. Panelists from Indiana companies Eli Lilly & Co and Techshot, both doing work on ISS through the ISS National Lab, discussed what work is being done, why micro-gravity is important for R&D, what discoveries we’re making and how it ties into doing business here on Earth for both of those companies.

We highlighted a SWE member and Chair of Membership for the Central Indiana section, Ushashi Dadwal, for her contributions to research in space with the Indiana University School of Medicine partnership with NASA and the Army to send bone cells to ISS. A drug will be used on the cells to see if it can combat osteoporosis—the common disease that affects astronauts and millions of people. For more on Ushashi’s research, check out this Wfyi Indianapolis article.

Thank you to all attendees, special guests, panelists and moderator, and our co-host AIAA!

SWE-CI's Impact on WE'19, SWE's Annual Conference in Anaheim, California

This year, the members of SWE-CI had a large impact on the annual Society of Women Engineers Annual Conference, held in Anaheim, California. The conference had over 16,000 attendees and offered over 200 presentations and workshops on professional development and networking. It's been SWE's largest conference yet, and our Central Indiana Section had a large impact on it!

Several of our members and companies were involved in the conference.
  • Rolls-Royce sent a number of speakers and presenters to the conference, including some of our very own SWE-CI board members!
  • Cummins Inc. won the Rodney D. Chipp Memorial Award, which celebrates the work of a man or company who has made a significant contribution to the acceptance and advancement of women in engineering. They are the third company to win the award in the history of its existence. Cummins also sent a number of presenters and plenary speakers to the conference.
  • Kate Maxwell, a SWE-CI member who works for Raytheon, won the prestigious SWE Emerging Leader Award - an award that honors individuals who have been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession and have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills as an individual resulting in significant accomplishments.
  • SWENext - CI member Geetika Chitturi won one of the SWENext Northrop Grumman Community Awards for best K-12 poster. You can check her poster out on our website under "Awards."
  • Our own Professional Section, SWE-CI won two SWE Mission Awards:
    • Best Practice - SWE Leadership Development & Mentoring - Professional Section
    • Silver - Professional Section
  • Over half of the SWE-CI board was represented at the conference.
