On Sunday, December 1, we held a congregational meeting with the intention of presenting and approving a nominating committee (Their initial task would be to nominate the next class of elders.). As there has been confusion about what took place, I hope this e-mail will clarify for those who have questions.
The proposed nominating committee included Bill Shoemaker (active elder), Sandy Wolf (active elder) and David Cannon (member at large).
A member pointed out that according to a revision in the PC(USA) Book of Order (which went into effect on June 23, 2019) the nominating committee may not have a majority of active elders. Thus, our proposed nominating committee was not in compliance with our polity.
This was an innocent mistake, for which we apologize. The Session will bring a revised nominating committee for congregational approval as soon as that can be accomplished.
