Advent Choir

bellsIf you are interested in singing in a choir as part of the December 22 worship service, please contact Patsy Sherer. We will plan to rehearse on Saturday, December 14, 4:00 p.m. at the church.

JYF/MYF Mentors & Mentees Cookie Baking

cookiesThe JYF and MYF will be making and decorating cookies on Saturday, December 14 at 6:00 p.m. We would love to have mentors join us as well! In fact, if you have a favorite Christmas goodie recipe that you would like to make with your mentor or a few youth, please bring the ingredients as well. We will share the cookies with everyone during fellowship time on Sunday, December 15.

Time to Turn in Christmas Gifts

mittensYour gifts for CAPS’ Heart of the Holidays Family project are due to Carla Weldy by Wednesday, December 18. You may deliver them to Carla at church or to her home at 842 Wentworth Drive in Goshen (please call or text first at #536-5138).

Gifts should total about $75-100 per person. Remember, they should be unwrapped, and each person’s 4 gifts (& gift receipts) should be placed in one large bag or box with their wish list securely attached. If your person’s gifts are less than the recommended amount, feel free to put the remainder on a gift card for groceries.

Thanks to Berkey’s generosity, 44 people will have a merrier Christmas, knowing that God sees and cares for them. That’s four times the number of people we served in 2018!

Save the Date

knotting comforterTo commemorate their 100th anniversary, MCC is inviting congregations to participate in their attempt to collect 6,500 comforters. Berkey is teaming up with Silverwood to add our comforters to this world record attempt. Please join us on Saturday, January 18, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Silverwood. This event is for everyone. Come and tie one or one-hundred knots. Don’t know how? We’ll teach you. This event is open-house, so come and go as you need. We look forward to seeing you at the celebration. For more information contact Judy Miller.

Supporting our Mennonite Schools

schoolsBerkey students attending Mennonite schools continue to be blessed with your financial support. Your contribution to one of our designated education funds provides ongoing support for our current students and also insures future opportunities for the growing number of children in our congregation. Here are two ways that you can help:
  1. Bethany Christian Schools: We are now collecting money for the 2020-21 school year. Currently we have nine students attending Bethany; next year we expect the number to remain the same. Please mark your contribution for Bethany Schools and place it in the offering.
  2. Mennonite Colleges/Seminaries: Our goal is to contribute $500 per semester for Berkey students who request aid. Giving to this fund is financially prudent because the colleges match all contributions dollar for dollar. Very few investments double your money like this does. While there is not a current need for this fund, accumulated amounts will benefit future students. Contributions should be marked for the college fund and placed in the offering.
Your contributions to either of these funds is tax deductible. If you have questions, please contact the office.

Sunlight breaks down plastic. Polystyrene, one of the plastics that clutters the world's oceans, is vulnerable to sunlight, a recent study says. According to researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the substance breaks down faster than expected. Unfortunately, that means decades or centuries, not a week.

Their Caring Bridge page is the best way to keep up-to-date on their specific situation and requests. Follow this link to the Caring Bridge website and if you click on the "Journal" button you can read the latest updates. Thank you for holding space for them in your hearts and prayers in the weeks to come."
