Children & Family Ministry

What a great way to prepare our hearts for Christmas! Starting on December 1, gather around every day to read the story of how God sent joy to the world with the gift of His Son, Jesus. And while you're at it, spread some joy of your own as a family!

Parents' Night Out

Hey Parents!  It’s another Parent’s Night Out!!

Need some time away from the kids so you can go out for dinner, go to a movie, Christmas shop, or just take a nap????

Drop your kids off at the church on Saturday, December 14 between 5 and 10pm.  We’ll feed them, play games, watch Christmas movies and have lots of fun while you go and do whatever you want to do!

Please let Kecia (218-242-3327) know if you plan to bring your kids so that we can be sure to have enough food and enough helpers ready for the night.

Children's Christmas Program

The Children's Christmas Program is December 15, and we're excited for our children to share the story of Jesus' birth! We are using the book "Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas" by Sarah Young as our script. We will have kids take turns saying lines from the book. They do NOT have to memorize the lines. We would like them to have read through it a few times so that they are familiar with the words. The students will sing some familiar Christmas carols and songs including Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, Angels We Have Heard on High, Go Tell It On the Mountain, Adore, and Who You Say I Am.

Here's some information about the schedule/rehearsals for the Children's Christmas Program:
  • Sunday, December 8: 9:00am - Children's Christmas Program practice for all Pre-K through 5th graders in the Sanctuary. (Adult Sunday School will meet in Fellowship Hall.)
  • Sunday, December 15: 9:00am -  Children's Christmas Program practice for all Pre-K through 5th graders in the Sanctuary. (Parent Connection will meet in Fellowship Hall; no Adult Sunday School); 5:45pm - All children and S.S. teachers meet in their S.S. rooms (Teachers: please keep your students occupied until it is "go time!"); 6:30pm - Children's Christmas Program followed by a dessert potluck in Fellowship Hall

If you have any questions, contact Pastor Kecia, Rachel Krahn, Mary Hoffer or Juli Smedsmo.

Sunday School has a deep tradition at RECC. Our church began with one man picking up kids for Sunday School using his oxen and cart so they could hear the message of God’s love for them.  As we celebrate God’s faithfulness in the past, we look forward to all that God continues to do through RECC. We have a great year ahead of us! Sunday School is a great time to connect with other families and hear about how much God loves you, a message for all ages and for all times! See you this Sunday!

For more information, contact Pastor Kecia Stroot.

Parent Connection

A new Parent Connection Group will meet at 9:00am (during the Sunday School hour) in the Fellowship Hall one Sunday each month to share a cup of coffee, good conversation, and the chance to connect with other parents in the church. This group is for moms and dads of kids in Sunday School or younger. It will be a relaxing way to meet people ... and breakfast is provided! We'll also hear a brief encouraging message related to parenting. Our next meeting is this Sunday, December 15, at 9:00am in the Fellowship Hall. For more information, contact Liz Lund.

Adult Sunday School Class

Are we sure that the God we serve is the God
  described in Scripture? Is rethinking
Him biblically really necessary? How do we do
it? How would it affect our views of
  Christ, the gospel, holiness, worship,
evangelism, service and revival? Behold Your
  God: Rethinking God Biblically
by Dr. John Snyder is a
13-week multimedia study that focuses on God’s self-revelation in the Bible, helping the believer to apply the descriptions of God to all of life. During the week, you'll work through the workbook (five days per week) in preparation for watching the DVD on Sunday.

Many in our day are tired and disillusioned because they have consistently hoped in the next new idea. It is just this kind of day that makes Christians stop running on their religious hamster-wheels and ask “Why are we doing these programs?” and “Why doesn’t God ever really seem to show up and effectively work in our churches?” Hard questions often lead to right answers. This study is written with the conviction that our fundamental need in Western Christianity is to repent of our low and unworthy views of God, to return to the biblical descriptions of the true God, and to risk it all in order to live upon Who He is. Nothing in this study is new truth. The devotions and exercises in the workbook, and the intros, sermons, and interviews in the videos are meant only to help the reader to take the biblical descriptions of God seriously and to see how they form the foundation of Christian living.

The Adult Sunday School class meets each Sunday morning at 9:00am in the Sanctuary. Workbooks are available for $15. For more information, contact Darrin Smedsmo.
