Please see the information below about several upcoming events over the next two weeks that parents and community members are able to support:

Student Council Fundraiser
On Tuesday, December 10th, the EGRMS Student Council is holding a fundraiser at Chipotle Mexican Grill on 28th Street in Grand Rapids. The fundraiser will run from 4-8 pm and the school will receive 33% of the proceeds if you mention this event while purchasing. Come on out to enjoy a great meal, while supporting special events for the middle school. 

Middle School Blood Drive
The middle school is once again hosting a Blood Drive on the last day before the holiday break, December 19th. This is the fourth annual blood drive at EGRMS and last year it was the largest middle school blood drive in the State of Michigan and the largest single-day school (non-college) drive in the state as well! We hope that you'll participate in this great event and sign-up to give blood. There are still a few slots available to sign-up, so please click here if you are interested.

The staff at East Grand Rapids Middle School is extremely grateful for the generosity and support that our students receive from our school community throughout the year. In this season of thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude!

Teachers and staff have graciously requested that in lieu of holiday gifts, students instead donate to families and students in need in our school community. A number of families and students are struggling because of health issues, job loss, or other situations out of their control. Over the past 15 years, EGRMS families have helped raise money and donate personal items for families and students in need at the middle school. Last year the community graciously donated $4,680 in gift certificates, cash, food, and toiletry items. Some of the items families were able to purchase or pay for were new tires, winter clothing, utility bills, holiday presents for their children, food, mortgage/rent payments, health care, and personal care items. These donations will remain in the EGR school community with 100% of the money benefiting middle school students and families.

Please consider giving to the EGRMS fund for families and students in need as an alternative to staff gifts. In honor of your child’s teachers, please consider one of the following:

• A cash/check donation payable to “EGRMS PTO”
• A gift card
• Toiletries

• Please put your child’s name and the teacher’s name who the donation is made in honor of on an envelope attached to your donation.
• Items may be dropped off in the Guidance Office.
• We will notify the teachers in writing of your contribution.

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office. Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

Somewhere in that stack of catalogs you’ve been getting in the mail is an envelope that tells you about something that really is worth your money. It’s our end-of-year appeal from the Foundation, and it’s an opportunity to help make East Grand Rapids Public Schools the best they can be.
 

Thanks to our community’s incredible support of the Foundation’s Now&Forever campaign, we won’t have to make another desperate fundraising push this spring. No more bake sales, lemonade stands and yard signs. As we promised during the Now&Forever campaign, we’re consolidating future fundraising efforts into our year-end appeal and our events. So when you open our “You Provide the Power” letter, remember that this will build upon the success of the campaign so that we can not only preserve vital school programs, but also provide innovative new enhancements. The EGR Music Boosters is pleased to announce a “Mid-Winter” concert fundraiser on Friday January 24, 7 pm, at the EGR Performing Arts Center. This event features a solo concert by Ruslan Sirota, Grammy award-winning pianist.
