Etowah Construction Class Visits Yanmar EVO Center

In early November the Etowah Construction class visited the YANMAR Evo Center. The students participated in sessions taught by the YANMAR team. During the sessions the students were exposed to multiple facets of the construction industry and the role that YANMAR plays within society and the industry. In the electrical trouble shooting session, led by David Long the students were presented with an opportunity to check components for voltage, resistance and continuity using a multimeter on an operational electrical training board containing many components of a tractor. Shane McCleon with Carroll Daniel Construction Group shared with the students the many different facets of Construction Management and shared the many different avenues that students can take to reach their goals in the construction industry. Safety is a key priority at YANMAR, the students learned about proper code of conduct while working with heavy equipment. They learned the proper safety attire that should be worn and why, where and where not to stand, proper protocol when entering and exiting construction equipment, as well as picking the right equipment for the job. The students ended the day taking turns trying out the various pieces of YANMAR equipment in their product demonstration field.
We cannot Thank the team at YANMAR for sharing their knowledge and experience with these students!

A Huge THANK YOU to Cherokee Christian School

Ayva Matiak, a fifth-grade student at Cherokee Christian School and daughter of Heath and Tiffany Matiak led the school in collecting spoons for students in Haiti. Ayva visited Haiti with her family in December 2017. While on that trip Ayva decided she wanted to do something to help the students and that she wanted to get her school involved. Matiak Foundation partners with New Missions who've been serving in Haiti since 1983. New Missions currently has 30 schools with 9,068 students attending. Each day the students are served a meal which equals 2 million meals per year. Ayva observed that not every student had a spoon to eat with, which left them to either eat with their hands or share a spoon with another student. After talking with Tim DeTellis, President of New Missions, Ayva decided this was how she wanted to help.
The students at Cherokee Christian collected 2,937 spoons over a three-week period! Matiak Foundation purchased another 63 spoons to make it a total of 3,000 spoons! We celebrated the two classes that donated the most spoons with an ice cream party!
We're so grateful to have partners in the community like Cherokee Christian that helped Ayva achieve her goal!

Thank you Mrs. Hartwell and the students of Cherokee Christian School for making a difference in the life of a student in Haiti!

As 2019 ends we want to say Thank You to all our community partners and donors. We're so grateful for your support over this last year! We were able to graduate five students from our Tools for Success program and connect them with employers that put them to work! We raised funds for our Haiti project. The 3000 spoons for our partner New Missions will be delivered right after Christmas!

We are looking forward to the New Year and all that it will bring! We cannot do what we do without the support of our local community and business partners. Would you consider making a recurring gift to Matiak Foundation or a one-time year end gift?

The Matiak Family wishes you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!
