DECEMBER 2019

Greetings North Families!

The month of November came and went in what seemed like the blink of an eye! It should come as no surprise the remainder of the school year will go by just as quickly. With the hurried pace of school, work, and life, my hope for each of you during the month of December is that you will find time to slow down and really connect with your children around their academic and personal interests and goals, and help them focus on their overall well-being.

Winter Break begins December 21st and runs through January 1st, with students returning to school on Thursday, January 2nd. The extended break from school is a great time for students, families, and our staff to reset, recharge, and rejuvenate. If your children are looking for fun activities to participate in over Winter Break, I encourage you to look-in to and take advantage of opportunities being offered in the community by organizations such as: The Boys and Girls Club of Central Minnesota, The YMCA, and Great River Regional Library.

Lastly, I want to encourage all families to complete an online application for free and reduced price lunch for the current school year if you have not already completed one. It is important for all families to complete the application, even if you think your family may not qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Please see below for instructions on completing the short online application. Paper applications are available in the North Junior High office.

Online Application Instructions:

      • New families will need to contact North for Skyward login information

·         Select a child's name from your account on top drop down box

·         on mid-right side, select "Applications" link

·         Select "Add application"

Hello band students and parents!

We are very excited to have such a large group of band students joining us at North Junior High School this year! We have already gotten off to a great start with beginners learning how to assemble their instruments as well as advanced students reviewing their notes and fingerings from last year. As we start to prepare our concert music, please ensure you have all the necessary items to be successful in band class: Your instrument (including reeds for clarinet/saxes, oil for trumpets/trombones/baritones/tuba, and sticks/mallets for percussion), your book (red for beginners and concert band, blue for wind ensemble), your folder, and a pencil. If you need help getting any of the supplies above, please contact Mr. Sylvester and he can help you get what you need.

Thank you and we are excited to see you all at the band concert coming up on December 5th at 7:30pm for Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, as well as the Northside Band Festival at Apollo High School for ALL band students on January 13th at 7:30pm.

Reminder to all Choir Students and Families:

We are just over two weeks from our concert!  Time to dig through the closet and find that black concert gear.  Check-in time for all singers is 7:00 pm with the concert starting promptly at 7:30.  Our concert order is 6th grade, then 7th, then 8th (also how we stand on risers, left to right).

To 8th Grade Students and Families only:

We are combining with the Apollo singers on ‘In Winter’ on our concertand theirs!  We will be practicing at Apollo on Dec. 13th, then on Monday, Dec. 16th we are on stage!  The call time there is 7:00 pm also.  You will have reserved seating in the audience while not performing.
