On behalf of all the Shire Staff we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

If you plan to stay and defend your home you must have an INDEPENDENT water supply and pumping capability. Scheme water may not be available due to damaged infrastructure and cuts to electricity. Experience shows that when there is extreme demand water supply and pressure are at risk.

Water Corporation makes preparation for the bushfire season to cope with extreme conditions. Despite these efforts, it is likely there will be a reduction in water pressure, and scheme water supply tanks may run dry in the event of fire.

Use the Department of Fire & Emergency Services resources to develop a bushfire survival plan that is suitable for your family and personal situation:  You can find more information online at:  DFES Fire plan

To support bushfire plans, people with groundwater bores and surface water access can take and store emergency water without it counting against their entitlements. For more information on this and for the location of emergency bushfire water supplies in dryland agricultural areas visit the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's website.

Drinking water
We recommend you keep a supply of drinking water available throughout summer in case your water supply is interrupted.

A
ssistance for customers affected by bushfire
After a bushfire we are able to assist you with issues such as damaged water meters and payment difficulties.  If you have been affected by bushfire please call us on 13 13 85.

The Emergency WA website provides emergency information and community safety warnings. Call 000 in a life threatening emergency or the SES 132 500 for emergency assistance.

COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM

Round 2 2019/2020 Applications Open

The Shire of Katanning Community Grants Program (CGP), formerly known as the Community Financial Assistance Program (CFAP), provides funding support in 2 categories of up to, and over $5,000 each, to enable the Shire to support projects that promote community capacity, improve social participation and inclusion as well as enhance community harmony and social cohesion.

Each application will be assessed against the following criteria:

  1. Does the project meet a community need?
  2. Does the project benefit a sufficiently broad, or diverse, target group?
  3. Does the organisation have the capacity to undertake and manage the project?
  4. Does the application represent value for money?
  5. collaborative community wide projects are encouraged;
  6. demonstrating alignment with the Shire of Katanning community vision

To submit an application for CGP funding, applicants must complete an application form located on the Shire of Katanning website through the Community Grants Program Page or at the Shire of Katanning administration building.

Please read the guidelines located on the website prior to submitting an application.

Applications are to be received by Friday 31 January 2020.

Further enquiries about the CGP should be directed to Natassia Shirazee on (08) 9821 9999 or publicrelations@katanning.wa.gov.au.

RATE PAYERS AWARDED
Council determined, during budget deliberations to move from an early payments discount scheme to an incentive prize for timely payment of rates (in full).

Rather than offer a small discount to ratepayers who paid their rates in full by the due date, Council decided to offer five prizes, valued at $1,000 each.

The vouchers, supplied by the Katanning Regional Business Association, allow the winners to spend their prize at local businesses who are members of the Katanning Regional Business Association and this adds value to businesses in Katanning.

Five winners were randomly drawn by an electronic system and three of the five winners attended Council on Tuesday 26 November 2019 to receive their prize from Shire President Liz Guidera.

Lucy Jarrett is at a crossroads in her life, still haunted by her father's unresolved death a decade earlier. She returns to her hometown in Upstate New York, The Lake of Dreams, and, late one night, she cracks the lock of a window seat and discovers a collection of objects. They appear to be idle curiosities, but soon Lucy realizes that she has stumbled across a dark secret from her family's past, one that will radically change her—and the future of her family—forever.
