Dear colleagues,
As Christmas 2019 rapidly approaches I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our stakeholders, clinicians, colleagues and consumers who have collaborated with us over the past 12 months.
I would also like to recap on some of our collective successes across the Region in 2019:
1. Supporting care closer to home through:
• The opening of the Wimmera Cancer Centre – providing a welcoming environment for patients and staff
• Commencement of the Stawell Austin Radiation Oncology Service – treating people with skin cancer in Stawell and surrounding areas
• Commencement of a fortnightly medical oncology service at Maryborough District Health Service
2. Improving supportive care to patients across the region by increasing the number of wellness programs
3. Building workforce capacity to over 900 staff in nursing, exercise physiology and supportive care
4. Secured funding to roll out oncology e-prescribing in Horsham and Stawell
5. Quality and safety audits saw 77% of indicators in the quality framework for multi-disciplinary meetings met, and improvements across all cancer service improvement indicators (related to MDM presentation, prospective meeting discussions, documentation of staging and ECOG, letters to GPs and evidence of supportive care screening)
6. Our patient extensive survey identified high levels of patient satisfaction – with 94% of cancer consumers rating their overall care in a Grampians Health Service as excellent or very good
7. Improving cancer survival: This year, five year survival rates increased by 1% to 66%
The GICS team have enjoyed working with you over the past year, and are ready to work with you and support you further in 2020.
GICS will close from 5.00pm Christmas Eve and will re-open on Thursday 2nd January, 2020
