"I’m so glad there is a platform to help promote what we have open in our department. D1.ticker is the best for that. Potential applicants get the job openings sent straight to their email, no having to search for jobs.” -Terry Prentice, Assistant AD for Major Gifts, Track Administration & Diversity Initiatives, Kansas
Jacksonville has announced it will discontinue its FB program effective immediately following a data-driven analysis. Dolphins AD Ricker-Gilbert: “This was a difficult decision. … We took a comprehensive approach, examining how we invest across the entire department. All options were on the table through this process and we made a commitment to hold off on any premature conclusions until we had a complete picture. Ultimately...when you consider all that we commit to coaching, recruiting, advising, facilities, conditioning, nutrition, and academic counseling, it's clear the resources required to support our football program outweigh the benefits to the overall Athletics Department and the University." Student-athletes who choose to stay will receive full tuition scholarships, and the university will honor all employment agreements for coaches and staff. (link)
The Rutgers Faculty Council supported a resolution calling for the exit of Scarlet Knights AD Hobbs due to "missteps, blunders, and errors in judgment." However, outgoing RU Prez Barchi & the university's board stands behind Hobbs, "The New Brunswick Faculty Council is a nonbinding advisory body to the New Brunswick chancellor. Pat Hobbs has the full support of the President and the Board of Governors. He has brought about important and meaningful improvements to Athletics and we fully believe that he will continue to do so." (link)
Ohio State AD Smith continues to be a leading voice on NIL, "We need to come up with a method to allow our student-athletes to take advantage of their name, image and likeness, make sure it’s something we can regulate, and make sure it’s something that’s not tied to athletic ability. We don’t want to turn this into a pay-to-play model or a situation where they’re compensated for their athletic ability. We’re trying to find a way to keep it tethered to the educational process. It’s a complex issue, and we feel good about the direction we’re headed in. But the reality is we’ve got to work with the federal government to come up with a national law." (link)
Arizona's Eller College of Management hosted a conversation on NIL that included Wildcats AD Heeke and Prez Robbins leading the charge. Colorado AD George and economist Schwarz were also among the panelists. George: "I believe in the college model. I believe it provides many benefits for our student-athletes. ... regulation of a student-athlete's NIL use should be transparent, focused, enforceable and should promote the integrity of the recruiting process ..." George expects items not tied to athletic performance (i.e. a song or a poem written by a student-athlete or being an influencer) to be moved upon more quickly. Schwarz, who worked with California Senator Skinner to sponsor SB206, "The only way to truly fix college sports is by building the enterprise on the foundation of athletes rights rather than 'reforming' a system that treats those rights as privileges." Schwarz equates current NCAA rules regarding the matter to violating anti-trust rules (1:14:05). Lots here - the back and forth discussion begins shortly after the 59-minute mark. Purdue Prez Daniels last week sat down for his monthly interview with WBAA public radio, during which he discussed the decision to prohibit students, faculty and staff from wagering on games involving Boilermakers student-athletes. Daniels acknowledged that "we probably don't have this exactly right on the first try," noting that there are still some gray areas as to who the policy covers, such as Purdue Global students and faculty, contractors and other campus members. He went on to point out, though, that the suggestion originated with the Faculty Senate and has since prompted others to consider such legislation. "Let's keep the conversation going." Daniels also addressed what appears to be the inevitability of student-athletes being able to profit off of their NIL, saying there's "no denying the justice, at least in the abstract," of allowing student-athletes to earn compensation since, without them, there is no revenue in the first place. He added: "I guess I will be a little sad when the day comes -- and I think it's when -- somebody figures out a way to share a lot of that money with the athletes because it will really mean the absolute end of amateur athleticism." An external review of Stanford’s athletic admissions procedures found no additional evidence of fraudulent behavior, according to Prez Tessier-Lavigne, who commissioned the review in the wake of the Operation Varsity Blues scandal earlier this year. The review found that the scheme’s main architect, Singer, approached seven Stanford coaches about potential recruits from 2009-19. Of those, only the former sailing HC agreed to engage in the fraudulent behavior. With no systematic mechanisms in place to address concerns related to Singer, the review made several recommendations, all of which Stanford will adopt, including the adoption of a formal written policy codifying Stanford’s approach to donations and athletic recruits; the adoption of a written policy clarifying that fundraising results are not considered as part of a coach’s performance evaluation; and the development of enhanced training for coaches on the fundraising process and new gift acceptance policies, among others. "If something in the American Athletic Conference, for example, were to open up, that would be something we would need to carefully evaluate, but Liberty is thriving right now. We just want to continue to grow, and we feel we can do that very well as an FBS Independent and an ASUN member." That's Liberty AD McCaw, who also thinks the Flames have "Power 5 potential" & notes continued progress for his department. (link)

Georgetown AD Reed clarifies his MBB situation, "...allegations were reported publicly against three members of the team. The allegations do not involve James Akinjo," who is transferring out of the program. Reed continues with pretty standard investigation process language, also includes, "Please know that we are deeply committed to the integrity of our athletics program. All student athletes are required to complete a four-tiered education model on interpersonal violence and sexual assault. Coach Ewing has taken additional steps to ensure a culture of responsibility and integrity within our Men's Basketball Team." (link)
Former North Carolina Chancellor Thorp on the Tar Heels' academic saga back in 2010, "We should’ve been much quicker and much more forthcoming with information. It turns out, when the Wainstein Report was done, there was more information, but not really anything new. The fact that we were slow and resistant in giving up certain information created the impression that we were hiding something. […] I think the way these things work is that, when the controversy starts on your watch, if you leave, you kind of take the suspense about the leadership away with you, and the next team can work to straighten out the remaining parts. […] I think it’s impossible to succeed at athletics and win as much as we do without having these kinds of things from time to time." Thorp also says hiring UNC AD Cunningham was one of his proudest accomplishments in Chapel Hill. (link)
Texas AD Del Conte writes to fans, clarifies comments about FB's 7-5 regular season finish, "Please don’t let the big picture message get misconstrued — this year didn’t match our expectations and no one is satisfied with simply having winning seasons. But considering where we had been for several years before Coach Herman took over, I’m seeing progress. That is just a part of the bigger picture." (link)
FB HCs: Contract terms for new Rutgers HC Schiano includes an initial AC/support staff salary pool of $7.7M, up to $200K in bonus money connected to season ticket sales, big buyout numbers. (link); Iowa State and FB HC Campbell have agreed to a contract extension through the 2025 season. Details will be released at a later date. (link); New Mexico State has announced that HC Martin will return for his eighth season. (link); Outgoing Washington HC Petersen: "My whole plan is to get recharged, redirected and rested. I'm not ready to do nothing. I've just got to figure out where all this passion, energy and inspiration goes. I don't want it to be on a football field. I'm excited to see where this takes me." (link - scroll down); Multiple sources, including Fox/The Athletic's Feldman & FootballScoop are reporting USC AD Bohn has retained HC Helton. (link, link); New Mexico AD Nuñez will use DHR for his search. (link); Don't think I had heard this story before as Owl Access' King recounts when then-FAU/current Washington State AD Chun hired former Old Dominion HC Wilder, only to have university Prez Kelly continue negotiating (and eventually coming to an agreement with) current Owls HC Kiffin. (link); Interesting & candid interview with Carolina Panthers owner Tepper on his decision to make a HC change. Very different approach than what we usually see from leadership around the sports world. Feels very off-the-cuff. (link)
Baylor FB HC Rhule expressed gratitude for AD Rhoades’ leadership, telling reporters at his weekly press conference that “you better find someone that’s in it with you, and that’s the difference about our place.” He added: “We have an AD in Mack Rhoades, it’s Wednesday of Thanksgiving, there’s not a person on campus and he’s out there watching practice, he’s in the corners’ room asking our corners, ‘Where are you going for Thanksgiving?’ Our players know him by name. There’s not many places where the players know the AD by name.” (link)
Youngstown State has released an unredacted police report concerning a 2015 incident which resulted in the expulsion of one student-athlete and the suspensions of two others, including one who was later readmitted to the school and hired as a Women's Tennis AC and athletic department intern. Grad student and teaching assistant Wagner, who recently started a petition calling on the school to adopt a policy prohibiting athletics privileges from those who have committed serious misconduct: “The acts these men committed were horrible. I wholeheartedly believe in second chances and that everyone deserves an education, but offenders of this sort should not be able to participate in sports or any other extracurricular activities on campus.” Victim advocate Tracy added: “The fact that YSU would continue its support of him, even hiring him, shows an intentional and reckless disregard for the safety of YSU students.” YSU Prez Tressel and AD Strollo have not responded to interview requests. More Personnel: It's official...former Under Armour leader Carparelli in as the new Executive Director of the Football Bowl Association. (link); Learfield IMG College St. John's GM Lowery heads south to oversee the VCU property. With FB conference title games ahead this weekend, SBJ's Smith looks at the future of the product. Wasserman's Jordan, as well as Barnes & Thornberg advisor/former multi-stop AD Pederson, believe championship games are here to stay & may even increase in value if/when the College Football Playoff expands. MELT CEO Thompson has a bit of a different opinion, "If they survive long-term, it will be based on expanding the playoffs to eight teams, with the winners of all five conference championships gaining automatic berths." (link)
The penultimate CFP rankings has Ohio State, LSU, Clemson & Georgia in the Top 4. Next contenders: Utah, Oklahoma, Baylor & Wisconsin. Also of note, Memphis at 17 leads other Group of 5 squads Boise State (19), Cincinnati (20) & Appalachian State (21) in the race for a New Year's Six spot. Oregon AD/committee chair Mullens on if there was a revote on Utah at 5 & Oklahoma at 6, "I'm trying to think. We voted yesterday. Spent considerable time on it. Revisited it again today. I don't think we had a revote. I think we spent considerable time discussing it again, but I don't think we revoted." More. (link)
Tailgate Guys co-founder Duffey on the wire again as his team will work with the College Football Playoff for its National Championship bout next month in New Orleans. Duffey also tells Forbes’ Dosh that “a lot of very smart people” have tried to enter the turnkey tailgating space in recent years, “much smarter than myself and [my co-founder] Michael [Otwell] that haven't been successful. A lot of the credit goes to being first.” Since launching in 2009, Duffey also observes that the conversation with schools has changed slightly. Rather than simply viewing Tailgate Guys as a way to improve the fan experience, host universities are now viewing the company’s service as a revenue-producing endeavor. “We don't generate huge sums for most of our partners. Some of the old ones do some real numbers now, but they look at this as a new ancillary pocket of revenue that can be found.” 2019 revenue projected at $24M. (link, link)
Arkansas has launched its new online shopping portal in coordination with partners Dyehard & WMT. Dyehard CEO Hough & WMT boss Focil point to the objective, "enhance the Razorback fan’s shopping experience." More from Focil, "Together with Dyehard, we are creating the first true digital ecosystem with the Razorbacks main athletic website to provide an integrated and seamless experience for fans browsing their favorite gear." (link)
Indiana fans bought just north of $470K worth of alcohol during the inaugural year of sales at Memorial Stadium. Roughly $180K will go into the athletic department coffers, while $20K will be shared with the Dean of Students Office in support of substance us prevention programs on campus. The $200K profit tops the $171K projection. Only 40 alcohol-related incidents on the season, compared to an average of 59 incidents each of the past three years. Overall average home attendance up almost 300 year-over-year. (link)

(link, link, link, link); "Burreaux" billboards have gone up around Baton Rouge. (link); The NCAA is pushing a Washington D.C. court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a former American U.
