PEACE

Second Sunday of Advent,
We’re preparing and praying.
PEACE is the word we are thinking and saying.

What does it mean?
We’re really not sure.
PEACE is a word we’ve heard so much before.

Is it groovy like hippies??
Or calm with no fighting??
A piece of the pie, is that what we’re writing?

Or Could it be Christmas? Peace from above.
There’s peace to be known.
There’s peace in God’s love.

Want to hear more?
I know you sure do!
See you on Sunday! I’ll be there too.

This month’s volunteer to celebrate is Christina Starnes.  WOW is she AMAZING!  She and her family have been members of Woodlawn since 2013, and she has been helping with the children’s ministry ever since.  She has helped on Sundays and Wednesday nights every year, and if you have come to a children’s Christmas program since 2014, she has been the lady running the show.
I can’t thank her enough for helping me with the Grinch program this year!!  Her vision and ability to work with the cast is incredible!  I hope you all are able to catch one of the shows this year to see her vision take shape!  I asked Christina to answer a few questions about herself, and here is what she said:
  1. Occupation- I am a Cybersecurity Analyst for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  2. Favorite Color- Teal
  3. Favorite Food- Korean food
  4.  Hobbies- Reading, shopping, DISNEY
  5. Favorite Book- “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”
  6. Favorite Vacation Memory- Most people would put money on me saying anytime we went to Disney. While there are plenty of favorite memories... (anytime we get to be together is a favorite) I would have to say is when we went to Mount Rushmore. I was so excited to see God’s creation right in front of me! It simply takes your breath away. I was excited for our kids to see this massive, massive thing that holds so much history through their eyes. The sun rising and the sun setting is just a reminder of how truly blessed we are. The idea that people did that is just mind blowing! God makes no mistakes and knew exactly what he was doing when he set those talented people to build this wonder!
  7. As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?  I wanted to be famous!
  8. Favorite Bible Verse- Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” I think this is my favorite because it’s a reminder with the hustle of everyday life to just be still. When life can get overwhelming sometimes, just be still.

Christina, THANK YOU so much for everything you do!  You are a blessing to this church and to the Children’s Ministry!

Heifer International
Heifer International empowers families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but the approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Heifer animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market.
In addition, recipients must agree to “pass on the gift” by sharing animal offspring, as well as skills and knowledge of animal husbandry and agricultural training with other impoverished families.
When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings and funding small businesses.
You have the power to give a hungry family the training it takes to feed themselves and their children; to give a young child a chance at an education; to empower a woman to have a voice in her community. Together, we can change the world, one family, one community, at a time. And it all starts with your gift today.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came in last Saturday, November 30th to decorate the church for Christmas!  Our Sanctuary and Worship Center are beautiful thanks to some awesome team work!  And thank you to our hospitality team members who came in to make sure that everyone working had refreshment to sustain us during the work.  All are so appreciated!  Thank you!
Sincerely,
Jenah Moody

Dear Morning Circle, I received your wonderful gift bag again and do enjoy it so much! I admire you for doing this as your mission as it really does bring happiness. It was nice to see the smiling faces of Kay, Carol and Linda. Thank you all, Phyllis Keagy

Morning Circle Friends – I cannot thank you enough for that “treasure trove” of gifts. You didn’t miss a thing. They were all items we need but forget to ask for as well as delicious cookies and candy. What a wonderful gift from you lovely ladies. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and I wish you all a fantastic Christmas. Thank you again for being so kind to me. Love always, Gerry Luznicky

“The Journey To The Manger”
The Chancel Choir is preparing a cantata for December 22 at both 8:30 and 11:00am services. This cantata is a group of choral pieces that Director Brian Stranghoner has put together to retell the story of the birth of Jesus. There will be Scripture readings between songs with slides to illustrate the message of the choral pieces. “The Journey To The Manger” begins with ”The Journey” by Lloyd Larson, which tells of the Wise Men from the East beginning their long trek following the star. The heavens open with the host of angels singing “Et In Terra Pax” by John Purifoy. The angels then direct the shepherds to go to the manger. “Shepherds Carol” written by Dan Forrest gives us an insight to their emotions. “One Holy Night” by Gilbert Martin, shows us Mary and the newborn baby in the manger. The cantata closes with “A Christmas Lullaby” rocking the baby Jesus to sleep.
Please plan to attend this wonderful presentation by the Chancel Choir. They have been rehearsing every Wednesday since early October and would love to have you there for this special presentation.
Communion will be served at the 11pm service.

Spiritual Quest, 13E- Advent Conspiracy
Advent Conspiracy shows you how to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple, but powerful, countercultural concepts: Worship Fully—Spend Less—Give More—Love All.

CATS, 11E-  Almost Christmas, A Wesleyan Advent Experience
In 1741, John Wesley preached his famous sermon titled “The Almost Christian” in which he encouraged people to follow Christ wholeheartedly. We should not be satisfied with being almost Christian but rather strive towards being altogether a Christian. In Almost Christmas: A Wesleyan Advent Experience explore how we can make the same commitment to Christ during Advent, connecting our Wesleyan heritage with the traditional Advent themes of Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace.
