Where is the field of self-taught art heading? This discussion will bring American Folk Art Museum curator Valérie Rousseau, curator Robert Cozzolino (Minneapolis Institute of Art), and and specialist Cara Zimmerman (Christie’s) into conversation about the expansion of the field of self-taught art through the study of archival material and oral history, around the theme of the supernatural, and to wider audiences.

Reflections Families and Folk Art: Found Materials & Art Environments
Saturday, December 7
1–2 pm
Participants will discuss some of the spectacular artworks on view in Memory Palaces: Inside the Collection of Audrey B. Heckler, then return to the studio to tinker with a variety of materials and create pieces that respond to the surrounding environment. Recommended for children ages 4 - 12 and their caregivers.

Verbal Description Program
Tuesday, December 10
10–11:30 am
Visitors who are blind or partially sighted are invited to join us for an interactive, 90-minute verbal description and touch tour in the museum’s galleries. The tour includes objects expressly meant for handling. Space is limited; registration is required.

Fridays, 5:30–7:30 pm
Performances continue next week December 13 featuring Lisa Bastoni, rorie kelly, and Jesse Glendon Tillers. Additional performances in December include Naomi Vernon, Emma Pierson, and E.W. Harris on December 20. The series is hosted by Lara Ewen. There are no performances the week of December 25 or December 30. Free Music Fridays return January 10. A playlist for the series is now streaming on Spotify. Wine is available for a $5 donation (free for members).

Artisan Jody Lyons will present jewelry inspired by her love of the styles of the 1920s to 1960s and her childhood fascination with her mother's and grandmother's jewelry boxes.
