Christmas is coming, good tidings, good cheer
Six days away
It’s practically here!

Much we have learned this past Advent season
We know why we sing
We know the whole reason:

Hope, we have heard, and we know it is true
doesn’t come wrapped in ribbons,
our hope is a WHO.

Peace not like hippies or pie or just calm
Peace is reprieve
For our souls, it’s a balm

Joy as we sing, as we dance, and we cheer
Christ born to us
And in us through the years

Love, love, last but not least
Love is the reason
we come and we feast

God loves us more than we ever could dream
In fact, God IS love,
Yes, that’s the whole thing

This Christmas gift, that we all receive
Is God’s endless love
For you and for me.

What a wonderful Advent season this continues to be! As we find many ways to prepare and celebrate the coming of the Christ child. I hope you attended one of the Christmas plays this past weekend, and I hope you came and heard our beautiful Heavenly Metals Bell Choir last Sunday. Don’t forget the Christmas Cantata is THIS Sunday at 8:30 and 11 services in the sanctuary. You won’t want to miss this lovely celebration of the Christmas Journey.

Then join us Christmas Eve! There are many service times; find one that fits your schedule and come celebrate the birth of our Lord. Emmanuel, God is with us!

“The Journey To The Manger”
The Chancel Choir is preparing a cantata for December 22 at both 8:30 and 11:00am services. This cantata is a group of choral pieces that Director Brian Stranghoner has put together to retell the story of the birth of Jesus. There will be Scripture readings between songs with slides to illustrate the message of the choral pieces. “The Journey To The Manger” begins with ”The Journey” by Lloyd Larson, which tells of the Wise Men from the East beginning their long trek following the star. The heavens open with the host of angels singing “Et In Terra Pax” by John Purifoy. The angels then direct the shepherds to go to the manger. “Shepherds Carol” written by Dan Forrest gives us an insight to their emotions. “One Holy Night” by Gilbert Martin, shows us Mary and the newborn baby in the manger. The cantata closes with “A Christmas Lullaby” rocking the baby Jesus to sleep.
Please plan to attend this wonderful presentation by the Chancel Choir. They have been rehearsing every Wednesday since early October and would love to have you there for this special presentation.
Communion will be served at the 11pm service.
Moment For Mission - December 22
Great Plains Conference Disaster Fund

Earlier this year, we held a special offering to provide materials for cleanup and recovery for the Nebraska flooding. Sunday’s moment for mission will go to the Great Plains Conference Disaster Fund - General Fund. Though the Conference heavily supports and endorses the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), donations to the Conference’s fund allows money to be quickly dispersed to people in need within the Conference. Like giving to UMCOR, your donations to the Conference Disaster Fund are 100% used towards relief efforts. Whether it be the continued recovery for the Nebraska flooding or future disaster recovery, your donation to the general fund will be put to work within the Conference as it becomes necessary.
If you wish to donate today, please make certain you designate so on checks and/or the giving envelopes.
Christmas Eve Offering
Ember Hope (Youthville), Open Door, Grace Med

“God so loved the world that he gave his only son…”   Inspired by God’s extravagant generosity, Woodlawn plans to give away its entire Christmas Eve offering from all five services this year.  Three of our own United Methodist helping agencies have been chosen to benefit.  Ember Hope (Youthville) cares for children who cannot live at home through residential and foster care.  Open Door provides services to the homeless and poor of the Wichita metro area, and Grace Med ensures that all have access to quality health care, regardless of income.  When you give your “manger gift” on Christmas Eve, it will be split among these three great agencies which continue to do the work of Christ right in our own backyard.

The Renew event is a new event being hosted by the Wichita East and West Districts for all youth in the Wichita area.  It will include some amazing worship; a concert; several intensive, high energy games; and a chance to reconnect with friends from camp.  We look forward to joining with other youth from the area for this great event on January 4 at Calvary UMC.  Our youth will meet here at Woodlawn at 8:30 in the morning and will return by 8:30 in the evening.  Cost for the event is $40.  Please register with Bryce or online at https://woodlawnumc.elexiochms.com/external/form/866d7910-01d5-475e-a2f9-c9291d42b247.
Open Door Drop-In Center Lunch
Woodlawn volunteers will serve lunch at Open Door on Thursday, December 26.  The sign-up sheet for donating food items and for signing up to help prepare and/or serve is on the table outside the church office.  The menu will be ham, macaroni and cheese, salad, roll, and a  Little Debbie Christmas cake (which have been provided).  Due to the Christmas holiday, we would appreciate it if you could drop your donations off at church by Monday, December 23.  We hope you will consider helping with this worthwhile mission.  Thank you!
Overseas Care Packages
We'll be packing overseas care packages on Wednesday, January 8 (a day earlier than usual) at 10AM in Room 11E.  We'll be packing 15 boxes in January.  We have a good supply of non-baked items for this mailing, but we'd appreciate any baked goods that you might be able to provide.  As always, thank you for your support of this mission!
A Couple of Notes:
If you did not receive your “Surviving the Holidays” book at the class you can pick up a copy in the church office.

The Grief Share class is meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6pm in the Parlor. All are welcome to attend.
Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. A Stephen Minister usually provides care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education.
If you are hurting, please call for a Stephen Minister to help you in your difficult time. Sharyon Miller 316-651-7105, Donna Overmiller 316-207-5614

Please keep Nancy Woodson in your prayers. Nancy, who now lives in Colorado, was admitted to the hospital with a large kidney stone and has developed sepsis; she is currently in ICU. An update from Nancy’s daughter said she was doing a little better but has not passed the kidney stone yet. She is waiting on test results and will stay in the hospital for a few more days. Prayers would be appreciated, thank you.

Alex Dean asks prayers for the mother of his friend, Al Ward. She is in her 80’s. She fell and broke her femur. At her age, the risk from surgery is higher. Please pray for her, Al’s family, and all the medical staff trying to help her. Thank you.

Please lift prayers of healing for a gentleman named Ben who has a very sore throat.

Prayer request from our website: "I just ask that everyone pray for Travis & Jennifer. Our 8 1/2 year relationship ended. I just ask the Lord's help to guide us back together again."

Please keep Ron Ferman in your prayers as he has his second surgery this Friday, Dec. 20.
Thank you note: Morning Circle Ladies, thank you so much for the Upper Room, planning books, chapsticks, lotions and, of course, the snacks. Thanks again, Jane Pomeroy
