Rosalind Franklin Programme for nurses and midwifery cohorts
NURSE LEADERSHIP TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Aimed at middle leaders, the Rosalind Franklin programme aims to help shape knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours into outstanding, compassionate and inclusive leaders, working at all levels across the health and care system.

The programme is nine months long and leads to an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Senior Healthcare Leadership.

Please see the participant eBook for more information, including programme dates and locations.  Applications are open until 13 December 2019 and can be made at the following link: https://franklin-stp.apply.leadershipacademy.nhs.uk

If you have any other queries please contact Toni Meyers (toni.meyers1@nhs.net).

Practice managers – funded coaching and mentoring opportunity!

Following the success of the last coaching and mentoring programme, and positive feedback from those who took part, practice managers are again being offered free coaching and mentoring sessions between January and March 2020. Places are limited and are offered on a first-come first-served basis. The deadline for expressions of interest is midnight 4 December. You may need to use either google chrome or Firefox if you have any joining difficulties.

For more information, please email england.gpdevelopment@nhs.net. Please share this information with any practice managers you know who may benefit from this opportunity.

Have your frontline staff had their flu jab?

Our Chief Nursing Officer Ruth May is spearheading this year’s drive to ensure as many frontline nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals as possible get vaccinated against seasonal flu – meaning they are both less likely to need time off over the busy winter period, and less likely to pass on the virus to vulnerable patients.

Please ensure you and your colleagues get your flu vaccination this year.

New post-polypectomy and post-colorectal cancer resection surveillance guidelines

We are asking CCGs to support trusts with a colonoscopy service to implement new guidance on polyp surveillance. Expert clinical opinion suggests that full implementation of the guidance could reduce the demand for surveillance colonoscopy in symptomatic services by up to 70% and support trusts to maintain service availability over winter.
Through Cancer Alliances we have asked symptomatic services in trusts with a colonoscopy service to nominate a consultant ‘trust surveillance lead’ with implementation of the guidance in their job plan by 30 September 2020. PHE has sent separate communications to screening services.

International Recruitment to posts and Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship
Funding available until end of January 2020.

The local International GP Recruitment (IGPR) Team have been working with practices across the STP over the last 9 months to support practices through the process to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship which in turn enables recruitment of non EEA nationals either through recruiting qualifying GP Registrars or through general vacancy advertisements for clinical roles.

NHSE have now advised that the reimbursement of the sponsorship practice application costs will only be available for applications made prior to the end of January 2020.

We would therefore like to encourage all practices across the STP to take advantage of this offer before it ends as the sponsorship licence lasts for up to 4 years so whilst it may not be required immediately it might be of use in the future.

More details here

There are currently a plethora of GP career development schemes and advice networks e.g. Welcome Back to Work, Locum Service, GP Flex, Future leaders programme, First5s, peer-group support, coaching etc. However, all these different schemes can be confusing and difficult to navigate because they all have different criteria and are not always easy to access.

The service has been set up, so it can deal with individual specific queries and give ongoing support. It will not just give a list of websites. The service is run by Jane Hallinan and Michelle Tomkins and can be access via 01473 350820, info@thegphub.org or via social media.

Care and support planning for people with musculoskeletal conditions - 13 December, 12.30pm

The impact of musculoskeletal (MSK) ill-health is now widely recognised, both in the NHS Long Term Plan and by STPs, with the majority identifying MSK as a priority. MSK conditions are the most common recorded diagnosis for hospital admissions and 1 in 5 people consult a GP about them.

This webinar will cover how care and support planning can help people with MSK conditions and will outline the work involved, and discuss the learning, challenges and potential benefits associated with the process.

The webinar is for commissioners and clinicians and will be presented by Nick Lewis-Barned a Specialist Physician at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
