Next Steps 2019: Tribal-Academic Partnerships for Diabetes Research and Proposal Development

This year's Next Steps event focused on fostering tribal-academic partnerships for diabetes research and developing strong grant proposals. Held with the National Congress of American Indians Policy Research Center, we hosted investigators for the Strengthening Tribal-Academic Partnership workshop. The day consisted of an interactive training using the Holding Spaces toolkit and grant proposal consultations.
The event included 20 participants representing partner institutions, community-based organizations, and the Katheryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies.

Maternal and infant health takes center stage at 12th Annual Institute for Public Health Conference
|

This year, the the Center for Diabetes Translation Research (CDTR) partnered with the Institute for Public Health (IPH) to host their 12th Annual conference, “Healthy Moms, Health Babies: Paving the Path to Reproductive Equity.”
During the full day event, attendees participated in an engaging set of keynote presentations, panel discussions and poster presentations pertaining to maternal and infant health and reproductive equity in the region.

Council on Black Health receives RWJF grant to promote health in Black populations
Congratulations to our partners at the Council on Black Health (CBH) for receiving a $785,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Through this new grant, the CBH will foster collaborations with key partners and organizations to highlight the importance of health equity for promoting health in Black individuals and families.

Health Informatics in Diabetes Research Core hosted successful lectureship series
The Health Informatics in Diabetes Research (HIDR) Core at the University of Missouri continued to advance research in type 2 diabetes and control through the Diabetes & Obesity Collaborative Lectureship series.
Throughout the year, lectureship speakers highlighted cutting edge topics in health informatics including cardiovascular disease risk management among patients with diabetes, tools to deliver ongoing patient-centered diabetes education, and strategies to reduce sugar sweetened beverage consumption among children and adolescents.
