2019 Holiday Greetings from TRRG’s Chair

Looking back: What a year 2019 has been for TRRG.

As you know, TRRG made its first ever Study Session presentation to Mayor and Council on May 21 of this year. As a result, two good things happened: the City asked TRRG to collaborate with Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) to assist neighborhoods who want to update their neighborhood and area (i.e., specific) plans and the City Manager defined a new PDSD position, that of the Neighborhood Engagement Specialist (NES). Rebecca Ruopp has been assigned to that position.

TRRG Initiative: Sustainable Neighborhoods through Planning.

With regard to updating specific plans, PDSD designed a Plan Update process modeled after that used for Plan Amendments. TRRG leadership partnered with Rebecca Ruopp, the designated NES, to hold two workshops, in October and November. The workshops focused on the steps outlined in the new Plan Update process, taking suggestions from neighborhood representatives and responding to questions. Representatives from twenty neighborhood associations participated because of their interest in updating their plans.

This is an ongoing project and more workshops and trainings are planned for 2020 to assist neighbors with their plan updates. TRRG could not have been a significant partner without the participation of our TRRG-Planning and Development Services Committee and our Board members. Many thanks to them.

If your neighborhood association is exploring updating its plan, please become involved. It will be lots of work and needs all hands on board.

Looking forward: Ways you can be involved.

TRRG Membership is our strength. We depend on your participation.

ANNUAL MEETING CHANGES coming: Please mark your 2020 calendars for the next TRRG annual meeting where we elect members to the Board and solicit ideas for our efforts in the coming year. The Board has decided to reschedule the event from a Saturday afternoon in late April to an evening meeting in March, hoping to increase member participation. Tentative date for the Annual Meeting is Monday, March 30, 2020, from 6PM-8PM. More details later.

Request for photographs that demonstrate why you love your neighborhood and living in Tucson.

During the Annual Meeting, I would like to project a slide show of Tucson neighborhoods that exemplify why we live where we do. Please send your .jpeg files to me at poulosbt@email.arizona.edu

Label them as to location (cross streets or neighborhood) and your name if you would like credit for the photos. Have fun exploring your neighborhood and taking pictures of the things and places that make it special to you.

Pay current membership dues. If you have not yet paid dues for the 2018-19 year, it is not too late. Visit the TRRG website (https://tucsontrrg.org) to pay dues by PayPal, on-line by debit/credit card or by mail with a check.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We have a lot to look forward to in 2020. Best wishes to all our members and friends,

Bonnie Poulos
