An end of year message from MPCCC
As we reach the end of 2019, we reflect on many fine achievements across our partner organisations and close the year with two sentiments in mind: gratitude and hope. We are grateful for the many clinicians, scientists, researchers, project teams, nursing, allied health representatives, consumer representatives and patients who have contributed to the innovative research and service improvement programs we have delivered. Gippsland’s first ever oncology clinical trial opens through tele-trials partnership
Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the first health service in Gippsland to open an oncology clinical trial, owing to the MPCCC’s Monash-Gippsland Tele-trials (MGTT) project collaboration.

MPCCC Molecular Tumour Board to arise from melanoma pilot research
MPCCC is set to introduce next generation sequencing-based tumour genomic profiling to melanoma multi-disciplinary meetings. The pilot program is coordinated by the MPCCC’s Precision Oncology Program team and includes oncologists from the Victorian Melanoma Service and the Monash Health Translation Precinct. Monash Health Head and Neck GP Education Series
With support from SMICS and SEMPHN, Mr Adnan Safdar, Director Otorhinolaryngology and the Head & Neck Cancer Team at Monash Health delivered a series of GP Education Workshops in the SMICS region throughout November and December 2019. The three workshops presented by the clinicians below, introduced 49 GPs, practice nurses and dentists to the Optimal Care Pathway for Head & Neck Cancer.

Treatment of cancer in older adults is often more complex than in younger persons because of likely co-morbidities, competing risks of death, potentially altered treatment tolerance, and variable individual preferences (Singh & Lichtman, 20151). Pancreatic Cancer Resectability Project: Adopting the International Guidelines as a single common statewide radiological definition for use in Victorian Health Services
SMICS is taking lead on a new pancreatic project, working in partnership with the North Eastern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (NEMICS). In November 2017, 70 clinicians from across Victoria gathered at the Pancreatic Cancer Summit to identify unwarranted variations in clinical practice and outcomes that could be addressed through statewide action.
