The Last Graduate: Far From Home!
View this email in your browser
Wilder prepares to fly to Guatemala City to attend University to become an English teacher. Last year, he boldly completed High School and last week he finished his 1st year of college from home. In January, he hopes to return to Guatemala City to start his Sophomore year. He has worked very hard this year and he has finished well. He was the last brother in his family to graduate high school, and the first to go to college!

But you must defend those who
are helpless and have no hope.

 ~ Proverbs 31:8

Dear <<First Name>>,

As you may recall, we had the wonderful chance to travel to Guatemala in December of last year. Buddy, Filiberto and myself spent time supporting the Fundación Salvación Orphanage. We were able to spend time with them and even make A Navajo Taco dinner for over 40 people! We also shared our testimonies. At the end of the time, nearly all of the kids raised their hand to receive Christ! Over the past year we have maintained our friendship with them. Although we are separated under unusual circumstances, our bonds have only gotten closer.
Buddy has kept in touch with his host family, and I have with mine.

The kids have been resolute in their online classes. For a time, the curfews, were even more severe than here in the United States, but they weathered the tough times with courage and valor.
The best news is that four of the children have been reunited with their families. Also good news is that we have been invited back at the end of this year.
We attempt FaceTime
meetings to practice
presentations in English!
Franciso, a native Zapotec, will join us in December!
This year, Filiberto (L) will be returning with me along with 2 other college age guys also from Oacaxa, Mexico. Danny (center) and Francisco (R) each have respective family coffee farms. All three of them are amazing in the way that they help their family farms. All of them have a simple, durable work ethic and they all have a great heart for the Lord. Their dreams are to grow their businesses and become missionaries as well. I will have my work cut out for me, because none of them speak English!
This will be an amazing opportunity to introduce them to a different people group with immediate needs. Along with sharing the Gospel in the street, we hope to serve the orphans at the Fund by making them dinner and a special dessert. We will also share songs and our stories, our testimonies with the kids. It will be amazing for the kids to hear from older native college guys who are on fire for God
What will we be reading?
This will be a great opportunity to serve, but it would also be a great chance to have a daily small group with these three faithful young men. A great friend of mine suggested going through "The Pursuit of Holiness" by Jerry Bridges.
This was one of the 1st Christian study books that I read when I was 15! This will be excellent content for us to dig into and live God's Word. I am re-reading it now so that I can write bible studies for the 10 days that we will be there.
The Universal Translator.
A year ago we shared the Gospel with the native Qui'che people in Guatemala using a Bible app capable of translating God's Word into thousands of native languages. It was amazing to see the people respond to the Message in their language.
We hope to share this tool again.
Would You Partner With Us ?

The trip will be from December 21 -- December 31. We are trying to raise $1800.00 for this adventure to fund the needed supplies listed below. The great thing is that the plane tickets have already been bought and paid for by a generous donor. The amount that we are trying to raise will go to in-country travel, Bible study materials, small gifts, groceries, and a blender for the kitchen!
Any proceeds will go to Fundación Salvación.

You can
look for "Ways to Give" under "Prayer Requests."

Needed Supplies:
  • Ninja blender for the kitchen
  • 10 FIRE Youth Bibles
  • 4 Bibles in Spanish
  • 4 copies of "Pursuit of Holiness"
  • groceries for 1-4 dinners
  • 20 gift brown bags for youth
  •   (peanuts, orange, candy, bookmark, evangelistic lit.)
  • bus and taxi travel
  • lodging for 10 days
  • gifts for host families
A few prayer requests:

  • Pray for the 20-something youth. Because of the virus-scare, many have lost jobs and their routine. They are in a waiting mode living life without purpose. Pray that they find Christ who is the giver of life and true meaning.

  • Pray for me along with the three friends that are coming along this journey. Pray for our hearts to be willing and prepared, that we would grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord as we serve.

Daniel 1: 11-14 - "So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.” So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days."

I thank God for your prayers and praise Him for your partnership in this ministry! If you like what you see here, please send in the comments, including suggestions on who I can share this with to further the message!

In Christ,

Phil
