New Year's Eve Downtown Festival & Fireworks

Celebrate the arrival of 2020 at the Alberta Legislature grounds. This fun-filled, alcohol-free, family-friendly event will have something for everyone!

Location: Federal Building (9820–107 Street), Visitor Centre, and Capital Plaza

There's a new building turning heads downtown! The Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) building, a LEED Silver and WELL Silver certified facility located on 109 Street between 104 and 105 Avenues, is now complete!

Downtown, things are moving fast. In case you missed it, here’s just a sample of the fantastic and important things that have been happening here.
ICE District Public Plaza now open!
The Public Plaza in front of Rogers Place is now open to the public, providing quick and easy access to Rogers Place from the South (103 Ave. / 103 St.) and South East (102 St. and Plaza Way). It boasts 77,000 sq. ft of public space designed to be programmable year-round and can host up to 8,000 people.

Downtown Dazzles at Edmonton Urban Design Awards
Five out of the 11 Awards of Excellence or Merit went to Downtown projects, including the 100 Street Funicular, The Edge, Carbon Copy (People's Choice and Urban Fragments), and the Historic McKay Avenue School Playground.
An additional 11 projects were acknowledged for their child friendly, winter or unique design components. The Edmonton Urban Design Awards (EUDA) is a biannual event to recognize individuals, organizations, firms and projects that have contributed to urban design and the City’s quality of life.

Rogers Place recently won a prestigious international architecture award for its focus on sustainability and accessibility. Read more about the award.
🌞 Some cool things about solar at Edmonton Convention Centre
The City of Edmonton recently announced a $10.8 million atrium modernization project... 60 panels have already been installed, and 636 to go! It’s projected to be the largest building-integrated solar installation in Canada.

The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) is the largest museum in western Canada and one of the top museums in Canada. More than 400,000 people have experienced RAM since it opened downtown on October 3, 2018.
