Hey all, thanks for being here. Truly. This year was super formative for us. 2019 saw two dozen releases, a growing roster, the launching of our newsletters and monthly mixes, a summer showcase, tours, music videos, splits, compilations, pop-up shops and over 50 collaborations with visual artists.

We’re making some tweaks and introducing new projects this coming year that we hope compels someone to say we’ve “leveled up.” Trying to unlock some new cantrips, you know? Stay tuned for Funnybone FM, new artist announcements, more pop-up shops, fresh merch (did someone say tote?) and shiny releases from our artist and collaborators.

Here’s what’s in store for the meantime.

Funnybone Pop-Up Shop this Saturday

Catch Funnybone at the Know Good Holiday Bazaar in Parkville, Hartford. We’ll be selling all Funnybone releases, tons of posters, stickers, new and used LPs, CDs and tapes. We think House Sounds would make a solid stocking stuffer to your budding-indie nephew or something. Grandma listening to Donnie Alexzander and Glambat is the holiday spirit we’re talking about.

Come say hi! We’ll be set up from 12pm - 5pm this Saturday on Bartholomew Avenue in Hartford. Full details and list of vendors will be updated here.

Pleasuremad releases The Stride / Grace

Pleasuremad has released two new songs! The Stride / Grace is a spellbinding glimpse of Jack Riley’s current state of sound.

From moments of audacious self-love, to quiet reflections on how the past shapes the present, Jack’s music continues to find magic in the mundane, taking the listener to a place where fantasy and reality meet. Cover photograph by Gabby Rodrigue.

To commemorate a decade of releasing music, Jack has made the *first song they ever wrote and recorded* available on their Bandcamp. It’s called “The Banks” :)

Watch Donnie Alexzander at Axe Eater Studios

Donnie Alexzander recently stopped by Axe Eater Studios to record a ripping live session of songs off Little Miss Drift Afloat and new material off their forthcoming record. Watch the session here. These days, you can catch Donnie live with some exciting guests sharing the stage: AP Flynn on keys and Namesake on vocals =O

CT Verses’ Top 50 Tracks

The lovable CT Verses has announced their top 50 songs of the year. We’re ecstatic and humbled for a number of Funnybone releases to have made the list: “Siccem” by Greetings, “Good Veins” by Laura Wolf and “The Stride” by Pleasuremad and “Sap” by Snowpiler. “Brasil” by Glambat and “Hazel” by waveform* even made the top three ♥‿♥

Also on the list are Similar Kind, Queen Moo, Crag Mask, Evelyn Gray, Sean Henry, Standby and more. Check out the full list here.

Laura Wolf’s new Single is Cosmic Bliss

Funnybone friend Laura Wolf has released her stunning new single "Good Veins" to the world. Once called "beautifully immersive" and "distinctively enchanting" by GoldFlakePaint, Laura is a brilliant composer, producer and performer that we’re elated to collaborate with.

CT Scramble notes, “Decorated with gorgeous sampled string arrangements, digital percussion, and heavily effected vocals, the song resonates both sonically and emotionally.” It’s super true. And just look at that artwork by the wondrous Katie Skau.

Hmm Something’s Not Right Here…

Eddie Jowels is releasing a new single on December 10th called “Something’s Not Right Here.” It features Justin Holden (of Kevin Human), Jacob Ott and Max Meether. The wonderful Blind Moose Studios recorded, mixed and mastered the track to 1/4" tape.

Slow Dancing Out the Decade

Opalescent, drunk ruby skies and muted blues. Palettes that autumn’s patterns hide revealed once again, cyclically. Find them, trace them on windshield fractals. Hung strings of icy, pearly optimism fall and get kinda buried for a couple months, or maybe crystalized for display under the permafrost. Just don’t forget it’s there. You’ve always needed it. Across our tundra, nature's mood ring shone.

Slow dance out the decade. A bundled sway to St. Vincent, Her’s, Pleasuremad, Tirzah, Laura Wolf. The midnight make out to Girlpool, Photay, From Indian Lakes, Great Grandpa. Kicking curb ice to Archy Marshall, Donnie Alexzander, waveform* and Tyler Burkhart. Someone’s warm hands on your cold cheeks to Nils Frahm, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, James Blake, Bernice.

You can hear our December Mix on Spotify here.

House Sounds Compilation

To celebrate two years of running, we released House Sounds, a compilation of gems by 20 artists we adore and are truly humbled to work with. Some of the tracks you knew from albums, some were unreleased, some were made just for this thang!

Order off our limited run of tapes and CDs. If you’re local, pick up your copy at Redscroll Records and Story and Soil. Lots of love when into making them. They come in a variety of colors you can choose from and feature the wonderful artwork of Keri Halloran. Keri adapted pieces from her series “getting there” to help us realize our vision. Hats off to her.

Who's Behind the Scenes

People be like. We’re not about to be like that with our newsletter. But it’s def worth being a little sappy and very grateful bc it took a ton of people to produce a year’s worth of Funnybone news.

This newsletter was brought to you by the artwork of Sam Swap, Gabby Rodrigue, Katie Skau, Alice Plati, Taylor Pelella and Keri Halloran.

A massive thank you to Taylor Pelella for contributing new and original artwork for our newsletters, event posters and every single monthly mix. She’s brilliant. All of our love ~every ounce of it~ to Funnybone’s musical artists and visual collaborators. The talent within this distinctive group of creatives is ridiculous.

To the folks at Blind Moose, Wherehouse, Real Art Ways, GHAC, WSAM, Tiny Box, CT Verses, CT Scramble. Tremendous help from the Funnybone team: Joe Lutter, Haley Weinstein, Gabby Navas, Andrew Baldis, and Carlos Jimenez. Carlos, I’m sorry I always send you the newsletter so last minute. Our web developer, Dallas Skau, keeps us afloat and on the grid. Thank you to Story and Soil, Redscroll Records, Repo Records and every other shop that carries our merch. To the crucial council of Audrey Morgan. To every reader, listener and supporter of music and beyond. To you.

With all of me,
Dylan Healy
