FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I would like to start this week by again thanking Kathy Hyland for another lovely Arty Afternoon here at Ashby on Friday. The quality of the artwork is amazing and of such a high standard and this is clearly Mrs Hyland’s passion rubbing off on the students. We will be sending artwork home over the following two weeks. Thank you to all staff who ran art activities for families and friends. It was a great afternoon.
Congratulations to Kate Haussegger and Jake on their wedding last weekend. Very exciting for their family including Ida and Ruby.
Congratulations to Michelle Rundle, George Kikos and Carly Ellis who have all been successful in obtaining positions here at Ashby next year in Educational Support roles. Julie Costello is reducing her time fraction to two days, in order to embark on a new pathway in Disability support, and Larissa Coleman will be on Family Leave.
We value feedback from not only parents, but also students and staff and over the past few weeks we have gathered some solid feedback in relation to communication, including weekly notes, newsletters etc., assemblies, parent feedback in relation to student learning and more. Taking multiple factors into play, we have made some changes to these areas from 2020.
Assemblies will now take place on a fortnightly basis. On the alternate weeks we will arrange house activities, to ensure students get to know a large cross reference of their peers and take ownership of a project or role around the school; Buddies, in order to build a whole school Buddy program; and Open Classrooms, to provide parents greater opportunities to view and discuss learning with their child in class. We will explain this in detail in the new year, once we further unpack as a team what this will look like.
Newsletters will also be going fortnightly and run on alternate weeks to a class bulletin that will outline the key learning concepts for the fortnight, so parents can support at home and any reminders etc.
New prep students have been enjoying their transition into Ashby. They have had 3 sessions so far and will join us again next Friday for a whole school transition morning. Following this (without 2020 prep students), we will be walking to the waterfront for a play and sausage sizzle.
The building works are coming to an end. Carpet went down last week, and the big clean up begins this week. We have booked removalists to move us in next week on the 19th of December. We are very excited and thank all the student and staff for flexibility and patience over the past 15 months.
We are seeking volunteers to water over the holiday period. Please leave your name with the Administration office staff and we will arrange a roster. It is likely to be only a couple of times of the 6 week period and appreciate any support we can get.
