Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
It has been quite the week for our school community! Mrs. McKee’s class was invited to attend the adoption ceremony for one of their classmates, Michael, last week on Thursday. While we knew this was a special opportunity for our students, we never imagined the positive reception it would receive from the world. I have said, time and again, that this community is truly a “village” raising our children together and this event was an example of that in action. The partnership between our families, staff, and community members is unique and something to be celebrated. It is magical to watch how that act of love has spread beyond our walls. Thank you, all, for being an important part of this special place. Our students put a LOT of love in hearts around the world last week.

Congratulations, First LEGO League (FLL) Teams!
This past Saturday, two Wealthy Elementary FLL teams competed in their first ever competition. They represented our district and school well and had fun getting to know students from other districts. The Royal Wizard Robots qualified for the state competition next weekend in Bloomfield and won an award for the best robot design. Congratulations to both teams and thank you to the parent volunteers for your hard work and dedication to STEM education. Good luck to our team next weekend!
Make a Difference for Kids’ Food Basket
This is the last week to donate items for our annual Kids’ Food Basket drive. Please send in items to the classroom teacher by this Thursday. Students will participate in a service learning opportunity on Friday by assembling Sack Suppers. Thank you for your support and to our Student Leadership Team for organizing this opportunity!
Sack Supper Packs
Kindergarten: Pretzel or Cheez-It Bag (1.5 oz or smaller)
First Grade: Pudding Cup
Second Grade: 0.28 oz meat sticks
Third Grade: 0.28 oz meat sticks
Fourth Grade: Fruit Strips or Raisin Box
Fifth Grade: Quart Sized Ziploc Bags
Flea Market
Friday is our annual Fourth Grade Flea Market from 12:30-2:00 PM. This event is open to the whole school and a favorite of our students. The fourth graders have worked diligently to plan their business during this economics unit in Social Studies. They have determined a product to sell, the appropriate cost, and the number of items needing to sell to make a profit. After the Flea Market, they discuss the effects of competition as well as quality control. All students may bring up to $5.00 in quarters to spend at the Flea Market on Friday when each class has an opportunity to visit. The proceeds from each business supports the fourth grade trip to Mackinac in the spring or is donated to a charity of the student’s choice. It is a wonderful, real-world learning opportunity!
Winter Safety Reminders
The weather forecast this week is predicting colder temperatures, especially Tuesday through Thursday. Please remind your child to wear all of their winter gear outside (i.e. jackets, gloves, scarves, hats, boots, etc.) throughout the winter season. We encourage you to label your child’s items to be sure they are able to keep them in their possession throughout the months ahead. We will have outdoor recess whenever the current temperature or wind chill conditions are above zero degrees Fahrenheit. It is always our goal to get our students outside each day to play. Once the snow is here to stay, we will be introducing snowball targets and sledding out on the playground to be used during recess. Please do not send any items from home to be used during recess.
This is a busy week at Wealthy Elementary! In addition to the Flea Market and Kids’ Food Basket collection, we will be walking to the high school on Thursday to view the orchestra concert. The three elementary buildings take a turn attending this time honored tradition for our district on an annual basis. We will be departing the building at 12:40 PM to walk over to the Performing Arts Center for the concert from 1:00-2:00 PM. We look forward to this special event for our students!
Warm Regards,
