MVAC 2019 Award Recipients
This year the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center honored six recipients at its annual award presentation. The James P. Gallagher Award in Archaeology Excellence was presented to Dave & Barb Skogen and a second award was given to Marvin Wanders, owner of 360 Real Estate Solutions. The Regional Archaeology Award went to Hoyt & Jeanine Strandberg. Summit Environmental School (La Crosse School District) received the Archaeology Education Award. Two Special Recognition Awards went to Chuck Thompson of Dairyland Power Cooperative and MVAC’s recently retired Business Manager, Marcee Peplinski.

O’Shea Lecture Well Attended
MVAC was pleased to host a presentation by John O’Shea, the Curator of Great Lakes Archaeology at the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology, and the Emerson F. Greenman Collegiate Professor of Archaeology in the university’s Department of Anthropology.  Over 150 people came to hear John share recent research focused on discovering and investigating 9,000 year old hunting sites and other cultural features that are preserved beneath modern Lake Huron.
Collaborative national research
Dr. David Anderson, UWL Archaeology & Anthropology Department, is part of a trio that conducted assessment on the psychosocial occupational health status of archaeologists. Read the article in Capstone, UWL College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities Newsletter, Fall 2019.
