November 2019 newsletter - Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society

It's been a busy year and we wish to thank all of our volunteers and supporters who have donated time, money and material. We couldn't do it without you!

In January, our president, Elaine Park, left for Calgary. Her talents are sorely missed. However, we are pleased to have Ian Mackay in the president's chair. His family has been in the harbour for years and he brings much local knowledge and enthusiasm to the board. As well, we were pleased to welcome Jim Cameron, John Farquhar and Louise Todhunter to the board. Sadly, Judy Renouf, Dorothy Faulkner, Len Lee and Shelley Stunell have left the board but are still volunteers. Special kudos to Leani Farquhar who does a great job handling the Sarah Wray Hall bookings.

Upcoming events at the Sarah Wray Hall site are: 6th Annual Art Show on December 1 and Rick's Cedar Strip Boat Building class starting January 8 (pre-registration required). Shelley's art classes will continue in the spring along with April Tools (last Saturday of April) and Pender Harbour Days (August long weekend).

Stay tuned for exciting news in 2020 with regard to our boat "livery" on Hotel Lake, boat builder Allen Farrell's collection of artifacts, and Bert Mackay's "museum". We will be bringing Pender Harbour history "to life"! As well, more heritage signs will start appearing around the harbour.

In the meantime, we are looking for school yearbooks, class photos, telephone directories, log books, fish licences, diaries, letters, receipts, photos of people or of buildings under construction. If you have any of these items, please let us know through the website. You'll help to save harbour history and provide us with valuable research tools.

There are volunteer opportunities. Do you love to organize events? Do you like to input data? Do you want to lead interview teams? We'd love to hear from you.

Memberships are due January 1, 2020. Five-year memberships are now available as well as one-year memberships. Remember, you can also drop your membership and cheque in the mailbox on the back porch!

Please see www.penderharbourheritage.ca for event, class, membership and contact details. Thanks for your support!
