Upcoming East Gippsland Partnership Forum

The EGPCP are looking forward to seeing everyone at the East Gippsland Partnership Forum this week.
The focus will be on extending systems leadership with facilitator Andrew Brown, which will include:
  • Exploring how Gippsland is leading globally in community-based systems practice, including the national and international context
  • Practicing real life application of systems to East Gippsland priorities
  • Work shopping opportunities for future leadership, strategy and innovation.

There is also an optional day two: Systems in action, where people will be joining our existing Systems Community of Practice to apply what we have learnt from day one with a hands on approach.

Walk to change the story - Community walk

EGPCP among with many other organisations, businesses, schools and community members, participated in the Walk to Change the Story event on Wednesday 27 November in Bairnsdale. It was wonderful seeing so many people come together creating awareness about ending violence against women and children.
 
 

16 Days of Activism: From awareness to accountability

This year’s 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign focuses on ending gender-based violence in the workplace.

The campaign runs every year from the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, to Human Rights Day on 10 December.

This year’s campaign advocates for international laws on women’s safety in the workplace. Read about the campaign and download the toolkit. Link

New research

Potentially preventable hospitalisations in Australia by age groups and small geographic areas, 2017–18

The potentially preventable hospitalisations (PPH) indicator is a proxy measure of primary care effectiveness. PPH are certain hospital admissions that potentially could have been prevented by timely and adequate health care in the community. There are 22 conditions for which hospitalisation is considered potentially preventable, across 3 broad categories: chronic, acute and vaccine-preventable conditions. This 2017–18 data update provides information by Primary Health Network (PHN) and Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3). Rates for two age groups (for people aged under 65 years, and 65 years and over) are also included. Link
 

Alcohol, tobacco & other drugs in Australia

The consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs is a major cause of preventable disease and illness in Australia. This report consolidates the most recently available information on alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in Australia, and includes key trends in the availability, consumption, harms and treatment for vulnerable populations. Further, information on a range of health, social and economic impacts of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use are highlighted. Link

Grants

Tackling Tough Times Together Grants| The Tackling Tough Times Together (TTTT) program gives drought affected communities across rural, regional and remote Australia the opportunity to access funds that benefit their immediate and long-term needs. Grants are available for grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly benefit local communities. Applications close 25 February 2020. Expressions of Interest in the $150,000 tier must be received by 5pm AEDT, Thursday 12 December 2019. Link

VicHealth Partnership Grants | VicHealth presents a huge new funding opportunity for a diverse range of organisations to propel community wellbeing and health promotion initiatives into unchartered territory. The first round of VicHealth Partnership Grants, offering a multi-million-dollar funding pool, opened 19 November. Applications close 10 February 2020 (Research applications) and 24 February 2020 (All other applications)Link 
 

Training

Building the Pool of Qualified trainers Experienced in the Prevention of Violence Against Women Program.
This Gender Equity Victoria Program responds to an urgent need to meet the upcoming demand for qualified prevention of violence against women (PVAW) trainers to deliver vocational education units in PVAW, gender equity and responding to family violence and other forms of violence against women. The program aims to increase the number of PVAW practitioners in rural and metropolitan Victoria who can deliver and assess accredited vocational units of study.  As a part of this program we are offering scholarships to assist PVAW and Gender Equity trainers to complete their Certificate IV TAE 40116 in Training and Assessment.  Program participants also have opportunity to build their training skills and knowledge through a new Community of Practice. Free Mental Health Training: Let them know if you're interested!
EGPCP staff recently attended an information session in Moe delivered by "Black Dog Institute " who have been resourced to deliver significant training for both community and health organisations on a range of mental health topics around Australia beginning in 2020.
Black Dog are now consulting with various organisations to identify needs and to coordinate with other local initiatives to maximise the benefits of this resource.There are 2 types of training being offered.

1) Health professional training. This can be conducted in house within organisations or could be delivered to a coalition of organisations. Delivery varies but can be for GP's , multidisciplinary audiences  (health professionals) and school support staff. These sessions can be tailored to cover a range of topics also . 
2)   Lived experience presenter training. Community presentations to a range of audiences.
