Welcome to the second edition of The BOG Standard, continuing to bring you the latest from the world of Moors for the Future Partnership. Christmas may be upon us, but the work of revitalising our moors still goes on.

Conservation works update

As ever, with the autumn and winter months upon us, our partners are hard at work restoring the moorlands of the Peak District and South Pennines. During the current work period, they have so far spread 840 bags of chopped heather (brash), laid 13,150 metres of geotextile to protect bare peat from eroding, re-vegetated 5.5 hectares of bare peat, installed 3,650 gully blocks to slow the flow of water from the moors, cut 28 hectares of vegetation for diversity, planted 244 hectares of sphagnum and conducted 55 hectares of invasive species control. With the hardest part of the winter still ahead of us, there's much more to be done in the coming months.

‘Moor’ results than ever for local youth climate action

With young people increasingly engaged in the subject of protecting the environment, secondary school students are carrying out activities which have been carefully designed to help monitor the health of sites in the Peak District National Park.

Scientists and volunteers help to make dipwell campaign a success

Our annual 12-week dipwell campaign to measure the water table has been completed for 2019, thanks to a team of dedicated scientists and volunteers.

How we conducted our annual dipwell survey

We couldn't do it without you ...

So much of the work of Moors for the Future Partnership is made possible by the volunteers who give up their time to help us in our conservation, monitoring and engagement work. From data entry to dipwells, from vegetation surveys to accompanying the Bogtastic van to events, we simply couldn't do it without you.

To ensure that volunteers are engaged and involved in our work, and feel they have a voice, we are looking to set up a volunteer focus group to capture ideas to inform the volunteer programme. If you would like to be involved in shaping the volunteer experience and possibly act as a sounding board in the future, we would like to invite you to attend a session on 28 January 2-4pm at the Moorland Centre, Edale. Spaces will be limited to 10 so please email us if you'd like to be involved.

Merry Christmas from all at Moors for the Future Partnership

We wanted to share this amazing cake, recreating in exquisite detail a festive scene of the Bogtastic van making its way through a snowy landscape.

We wish all our friends and partners a very merry Christmas and a great 2020.
