In deze nieuwsbrief is er o.a. aandacht voor het nieuwe zakelijk reisbeleid van de RUG, de nieuwe afval-aanbesteding waar de Green Office aan mee werkt én de nieuwe Learning Community die is opgezet met het thema duurzaamheid.

En dan hebben we ook nog eens geweldig nieuws over de ranking van de RUG in de GreenMetric UI 2019 en willen we graag jouw input voor onze interactieve duurzame kaart van Groningen!

RUG 8e op wereldlijst van 780 duurzame universiteiten
De Rijksuniversiteit Groningen is dit jaar geëindigd op de achtste plaats in de UI GreenMetric 2019. De Green Office is ontzettend trots op dit resultaat! Ten opzichte van vorig jaar is de RUG één plek gedaald, maar staat qua puntenaantal gelijk aan de Universiteit van Leiden, die eindigde met een 7 e plaats op de ranglijst.
Van de 780 deelnemende universiteiten is Wageningen University & Research de meest duurzame. De Rijksuniversiteit Groningen staat voor Nederland op plaats 3. |

Beslisboom en kaart voor nieuw zakelijk reisbeleid RUG
Medewerkers van de RUG maken elk jaar veel kilometers met het vliegtuig. Om de CO2 uitstoot hiervan te verminderen én om medewerkers aan te sporen om duurzame keuzes te maken, heeft de RUG sinds een aantal maanden nieuw zakelijk reisbeleid. Om het voor iedereen zo makkelijk mogelijk te maken is er nu een beslisboom én een kaart.

Duurzaamheid in nieuwe aanbesteding afval
De Green Office en het Facilitair Bedrijf werken hard aan een nieuwe Europese aanbesteding Reststoffenmanagement. De doelstellingen voor 2025 van het nieuwe afvalbeleid van de RUG zijn: 95% afvalscheiding in 2025 en 15% reductie van de totale hoeveelheid afval t.o.v. 2020. Dit betekent ook dat we er naar streven om al het reguliere niet-gevaarlijke afval circulair te maken in 2025.
Om het nieuwe beleid te laten slagen is de RUG wel deels afhankelijk van studenten en medewerkers. Vanaf medio 2020 wordt er van hun verwacht dat ze in de gebouwen van de universiteit al hun afval scheiden!

De Green Office is bezig met de ontwikkeling van een duurzame kaart van Groningen, met daarop horeca, winkels en duurzame initatieven, zoals het Repair Café. Heb je suggesties voor ons? Laat het dan weten via greenoffice@rug.nl!

Learning Community - Become a Sustainability Expert
Februari 2020 start er een nieuwe Learning Community voor studenten bij de RUG. Studenten krijgen de kans om zelf de inhoud en modules van de cursus te ontwerpen. Experts op het gebied van duurzaamheid en educatie helpen hierbij. Het opdoen van nieuwe kennis en het ontwikkelen van vaardigheden zoals leiderschap en projectmanagement staan centraal. De cursus wordt wanneer deze klaar is ook daadwerkelijk gegeven bij de RUG!

Kerst boekenmarkt op 19 december
Op 19 december van 12:00 tot 15:00 is er een tweedehands boekenmarkt in het Harmoniegebouw. De Green Office is hier ook bij om jouw aanwinsten op een duurzame manier in te pakken en om tips te geven voor een groene Kerst!

In this newsletter we will tell you about to the new sustainable business travel policy of the UG, the new waste procurement, where the Green Office is cooperating in, and the new Learning Community about sustainability for students.

Also, we have some great news about the ranking of the UG in the GreenMetric UI 2019 and we would like your input for our sustainable interactive map of Groningen.

UG 8th on world list of 780 sustainable universities
This year, the University of Groningen finished in 8th place in the GreenMetric 2019 UI. The Green Office is tremendously proud of this result! Compared to last year, the UG has dropped one place, but scored the same amount of points as the University of Leiden, which ended in 7th place in the rankings.
Of the 780 participating universities, Wageningen University & Research is the most sustainable. The University of Groningen is in 3rd place for the Netherlands.

Decision tree and map for new UG business travel policy
UG staff members travel many kilometres by plane each year. To reduce CO2 emissions and to encourage staff members to make more sustainable choices, the UG recently formulated a new travel policy. To make travel decisions easy for everyone, a decision tree and a map have now been created by the Green Office.

Sustainability in new waste procurement
The Green Office and the Facility Services department are working hard on a new European tender for waste management. The objectives for 2025 of the new UG waste policy are: 95% waste separation in 2025 and a 15% reduction of the total amount of waste compared to 2020. This also means that we strive to make all general non-hazardous waste circular in 2025 .
To make the new policy a success, the UG is partly dependent on students and staff. From mid-2020, they are expected to separate all their waste in the university buildings!

The Green Office is working on the development of a sustainable map of Groningen, which will include food spots, shops and sustainable initiatives, such as the Repair Café. Do you have suggestions for us? Let us know via greenoffice@rug.nl!

Learning Community - Become a Sustainability Expert
In February 2020 a new Learning Community for students will start at the UG. Students are given the opportunity to design the content and modules of the course themselves. Experts in the field of sustainability and education will aid them in the process. Gaining new knowledge and developing skills such as leadership and project management are the main focus of the course. The course will also be given at the UG when it is ready!

Christmas book market on December 19
On December 19 from 12:00 to 15:00 there is a second-hand book market in the Harmony building. The Green Office will also be there to wrap your presents in a sustainable way and to give you tips for a green Christmas!
