If Sara May, Mission Funding chair, is not at the event, you can find the paperwork in the "Mission Funding" mailbox in the church office reception area.  Push the completed form under the door to the first office on the left, and you're all set! BLUE HOLIDAY VESPERS
December 11, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary

Christmas is not always merry, but it can always be holy. Come in out of the December dark to the gentle presence of music, readings, sharing, and silence.

We offer solace tonight for anyone who is feeling blue – those who are caring for ailing loved ones, have lost someone dear, and anyone who is feeling out of synch with the forced happiness of the holidays.
HAUNTED GINGERBREAD HOUSE

The youth group has a special treat for Friday the 13th. Come if you dare and see what happens when ginger and spice aren’t everything nice! Enter a haunted gingerbread house and experience the terrifying thrills and chills of sweetness gone wrong.

WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING?
Thursday, December 19, 6:30 p.m. in the Anthony Room &
Saturday Afternoon, December 21, in Fernandina

Join Rev. Roberta for an interactive workshop that will help you discover something inside of you that calls you to service and even (gulp) leadership. Together we will dispel some of the stereotypes about leadership and examine the very diverse characteristics that are actually needed in a community of faith like ours. Each participant will explore ways that would allow them to be in service to the congregation and community in the most spiritually satisfying way possible.

We have a lot going on this holiday season. Download the coming month's calendar and stay on top of all of the UUCJ events in December!

HOLIDAY GREEN TIP

Buy a real tree.  A fake tree is mostly plastic and probably manufactured in China.

For tree trimmings, try edible or compostable items such as popcorn or cranberries on a string, gingerbread cookies, paper chains, pine cones, or items made from "found" objects around your house. Use LED Christmas lights and a timer to save lots of energy.

Announcements

Campus Driveway Narrowing

The Florida Department of Transportation will be closing off HALF of our entrance driveway starting Tuesday, December 3 through Friday, December 6 (4 full days) in order to pour the new sidewalk. After that, they will re-open that side for us to use and close the other side for another 4 days, starting Tuesday December 10th through Friday December 13th. Please exercise CAUTION entering and exiting our church parking lot during those time periods.

A Path to Reason for America by Phil Scanlan

A Path to Reason for AmericaPhil Scanlan, UUCJ member in Fernandina Beach, will be on the UUCJ campus on December 8 where he will have copies of his new book A Path to Reason for America for sale for $10 — and Phil will donate all proceeds from sales back to UUCJ.  This will be an opportunity to talk with Phil about his book, his reasons for writing it, and his passion for improving the lives of all Americans.  (And get him to autograph your copy!)

Description of the book: The first half of the book explains how to fix Washington and resolve our multiple crises using a quality approach. The second half of the book provides examples of how to apply this quality approach to reduce twenty-three US crises while balancing the budget. With each crisis analysis is a personal story to show how individuals are affected by each of these crises. The underlying root cause of the loss of hope in the American dream is identified along with how to restore hope in the American dream.
