Return to the field

We arrived safely to Panama on August 28 to begin our third missionary term. With the Lord's help, we quickly began to settle back in: found an apartment to rent, moved our belongings from storage to our new place, and began unpacking. It certainly has been an adjustment not having our daughters with us. Natalie and Nicole continue their university studies in the United States.

All this just in time for our first of many ministry trips! We have traveled consisently over the past three months. We have conducted seminars, taught workshops, planned international events, and advised national leaders.

Latin America Resource & Advisory Center

Since our return to Panama, we have been in three countries - Honduras, Peru and Dominican Republic - where about 900 leaders and professors received training seminars and workshops. This is all part of the International Certification Program for Bible School Professors and Administrative Personnel (PROCEPA) which we direct, with over 6,800 participants from 24 countries. Most of the participants are volunteer pastors that give of their time and are committed to training ministry leaders in their respective countries.

In 2020, we anticipate over 900 participants from across Latin America in the International Bible School Leaders Summits in Guatemala and Chile. The four-day Summits offer a series of general sessions, workshops and inspirational services.

We have had the privilege of being a part of the Latin America Resource & Advisory Center since 2011 and have directed the ministry since 2018. We are blessed to serve the more than 1,200 Bible schools and extensions throughout the 19 Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Missions Training and Mobilization

In September, we participated in the first consult of missions training program coordinators in Latin America, held in Armenia, Colombia, with representation from 10 countries. It was a blessed time of sharing experiences, vision casting and strategizing for training new missionaries. Miguel is a member of the Strategic Commission on Missionary Training for “Missions Together” (Misiones en Conjunto) of the Assemblies of God in Latin America.

During the three-day event, we had the opportunity to share our vision for an international cross cultural and language school. It would be hosted at the Latin America Resource and Training Center that is currently under construction in Panama. Because of Panama's diverse demographics, resources are available to facilitate teaching English as a second language, and even teach some basic Mandarin and Arabic, too. It's unique location in the region allows Panama to be a central location for Latin Americans to come and receive the needed training before leaving for their field of mission service.

There was a positive and confirming response from the group in Armenia. Also, we have seen the Lord open opportunities for us to be equipped for this vitally needed ministry in the region. Please join us in prayer to the Lord of the harvest, as we continue to seek His direction and provision.

We had the privilege of establishing Panama’s Missionary Training Program in 2016, and it is flourishing! It’s first 16 graduates completed their studies in October, a second study group will begin in January 2020, and another two study groups are projected to start later in the year. The objective is to offer ministry training to those interested in and called to missions in a flexible study program. We are praying to the Lord of the harvest to raise up more Panamanians missionaries that will reach the unreached and under-reached people groups of the world with the Good News of Jesus.
