Paw Prints for November 2019
November is Adopt a Senior Pet month, come meet some of our Fluvanna furbabies, and make your holidays that much happier! <3 Don't let their stated age fool you - senior dogs and cats still have lots of love to share! Some prefer to relax and soak up life at a leisurely pace, but others still have lots of pep in their step and enjoy being active with their families! Seniors' personalities are often more predictable, and many may have already had experience living in a home with a family making them an easy companion! Won't you give them a chance? We have multiple senior dogs and cats just waiting to meet you at the shelter, and even if you are not able to adopt at this time we can always use fosters for our senior pets to help give them a more comfortable and less stressful place to hang out while they wait for their forever family! You can see our pawesome seniors, and all of our currently available pets, on our website: http://fspca.org/adopt.html.
DID YOU KNOW?
  • Last month 36 animals found their forever homes, 15 were reunited with loving families, and 8 were transferred to wonderful rescue partners--a total of 59 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 8 pets in the club--available cuties are:  Brent, Swirly, Leon, Jersey, Shadow, Mr. Tiggs, Chuckles and Eli. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
  • We offer 50% off of adoption fees of adult and senior cats and dogs for active duty military and veterans all year round. In order to qualify for the discount we require that an interested individual provide proof of military service, which may include military ID card, a veteran ID card, a DD 214, or a driver’s license with a veteran indicator.

We have lots of exciting things happening at the FSPCA in the next month, one of which is the kick off of the "Raise the Roof" Capital Campaign!

The shelter building turned 20 years old in 2018, and this year the non-profit organization celebrated our 30th year of helping animals in need in Fluvanna County. As is to be expected with an aging building, we have much needed repairs and updates that must take place in the near future, so we have set a goal of raising $30,000 in honor of the 30th year, to help cover the cost of roof repairs, and hopefully provide other facility upgrades such as improving the insulation of the dog kennels, improving the isolation space, and possibly updating the cat cages. Our goal is to raise these necessary funds over the next year in addition to general donations.

Donations towards the Capital Campaign can be made at our gofundme page. We would also greatly appreciate any and all matching gifts to help us reach our goal so that we can continue to provide the best care to the animals in need in Fluvanna County. Interested individuals or organizations and companies may contact events@fspca.org for more information!

Thank you again for all of the continued support!!

P.S. Thank you Macrina Singleton for the graphic!

Our 12 Strays mailer will be arriving in mailboxes soon, but we would like to go ahead and get a jump start on finding forever homes for all of our 12 Strays in time for them to celebrate the holidays with their new families! Won't you please help us to share these deserving pets? Many are Lonely Hearts Club members, which means that they have been at the shelter for at least 6 months if not longer. Leon is a sweet fella who has been with us for almost 2 years at no fault of his own! And some of the other deserving pets are seniors who have been overlooked simply because of their age. So please start sharing help find their special person(s)!
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
  • The shelter is currently in need of Purina Kitten Chow. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist here: (http://a.co/iVY4MS0). Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Foster! You can help one of our shelter pets heal, grow, and/or learn about life in a home. Each foster brings our pets that much closer to a furever home of their very own. Learn more about fostering with us here: http://fspca.org/foster.html.
  • Volunteer! We are always in need of volunteers at the shelter for socialization and dog walks, to lend a helping hand at adoption and fundraising events, and to help transport animals to veterinary appointments. Learn more here: http://fspca.org/volunteer.html. You can lend a hand by volunteering to help with our December “12 Strays Soiree” by contacting events@fspca.org. Thank you all for your caring hearts!!
  • Consider Board Membership with the FSPCA!  The Fluvanna SPCA has open positions on the Board of Directors and is seeking active members to join our team. You do not have to be a Fluvanna County resident to join the board, but do need to be able to attend regular monthly meetings. If you are interested in joining, please send an email of interest along with any relevant skills or experience to: president@fspca.org.
Pizza! All month long, place an online order with our Palmyra Papa John’s and support the shelter at the same time!  Papa John's Pizza · Palmyra, Virginia
Brrr!! It is COLD! Please remember to keep your pets, and any outdoor animals safe! Clean, dry, warm shelter is a must as is un-frozen water! If you know of or see an animal(s) that does not have adequate shelter, water, etc please contact animal control - their life may depend on the kindness of strangers!
PUPDATES:  Hello my name is Missy!! I’m a 9 month old brindle hound. I am Ehrlichia & Heartworm positive, and I’m currently on the slow kill treatments for this. If you are interested in adopting me, you can continue the slow kill treatment, or contact your veterinarian for a possible Heartworm treatment. The good news--I get along very well with everyone, and I am very friendly and loving!! When I see other dogs, all I want to do is play. I walk very well on the leash as well. I will be available for adoption once I am spayed, but you can foster me until then, or sponsor my spay surgery to help me find a home even sooner. I am current on all my age appropriate vaccines. Won’t you come meet me today?
CAT TAILS: Today (and everyday), we're grateful for all of our FSPCA kitty companions, and for the many generous donors who have provided cat food to keep them happily fed!!Come meet our available kitty furbabies, and treat your current feline family members to even more loving affection in celebration! Check out Blayze, and our many kitties up for adoption here.

Hello! My name is Blayze, and I am a little over a year old. I am a goofy fella and sometimes I get over stimulated, so please take your time with me. I enjoy resting and sunbathing in the sun, or lying around sometimes, just doing nothing. I can be picky with other cats, but with space, I do well. I would prefer to be in a home with no small children. One of the lovely volunteers has been playing with me at PetSmart, and says I am very handsome, fun and wonderful to be around. J If this sounds like the perfect fit for your family please come by and see me. I am current on all shots, micro-chipped and neutered. I am located @ PetSmart 425 Merchant Walk Square, Charlottesville, VA 22902
