Message from the editorial team. 

Welcome to the November 2019 Edition of the UYAHF Newsletter. We are excited to yet again share with you what we have been up to in November and trust us, its been a lot. November has not been like other months, it has been extremely busy   but we are glad that we were able to do a lot as we strive to realize our goals. 

We would also like to thank all of you who keep sharing with us feedback on how best we can improve as we endeavour to keep you updated on all our work.

A clear path forward to make the world more inclusive for women and girls 
 November 12th to 14th transformed the city of Nairobi and the world as over 9,000 heads of state, diplomats, civil society members and many more descended upon the Kenyatta International Convention Centre to make their voices heard on a number of topics ranging from gender equality, maternal deaths, gender based violence, safe abortion and so many more. this summit which was a follow up to the first ICPD in 1994 in Cairo was for the purpose of accelerating the Cairo commitments before 2030. Orange the world for 16 days 
 The 16 days of activism against gender based violence taking place from 25th November to 10th  December have got everyone involved in many creative ways from matches to concerts and from Australia to Morocco. At UYAHF, we decided to show our solidarity to victims of GBV and to show our strong stance and commitment to ending this issue by running an online campaign featuring recommendations from everyday young people on how we can allege involved to end GBV. This campaign is running on our Facebook page and you can find out more and follow it at UYAHF.

 Young mothers equipped on preventing pregnancy and childbirth complications

 

 Pregnancy and childbirth related complications are still the leading causes of maternal deaths among many adolescent girls and young women in Uganda. However, these complications are preventable especially when women and girls have the right information and seek medical advise and care in time. 2nd national girls summit aims to prevent teenage pregnancies and early marriage for vulnerable girls 

At just concluded 2nd National Girl Summit, we were privileged to host a very successful and well attended concurrent Session on Leaving No Girl Behind, where we focused the discussions on strategies to adequately reach vulnerable and hard to reach girls and prevent them from teenage pregnancies and child marriages.  Engaging everybody to end child marriage 

Empower Girls: We need to work directly with girls, give them opportunities to build skills, knowledge acquisition and exercise their rights and develop support networks is an important part of our efforts to end child marriages. We need to invest in safe spaces programs and support young people to be drivers of change. Youth research is key to their involvement in project implementation
  The youth demography is often left behind when it comes to project implementation and are really consulted even when they have the right information and key eye witness and ground knowledge. It is also a well known fact that this demography is the largest in most African countries, but regardless of their numbers, the youth are largely untapped and under utilized. Read more...
 Youth involved in ending period stigma
Menstrual health hygiene and management remains a challenge for many girls and young women across the country, as many of them do not have the right information, menstruation materials, proper disposal facilities and even basic clean water. This issue is most wide spread in rural Uganda and in the poorer communities in the urban regions and largely remains staple in these communities because of socio-cultural norms. Read more...
 Physical fitness for overall health 
There’s a common saying that goes “work with out play makes Jack a dull boy”, and at the Youth Hub, we take this saying seriously, that is why on Friday 1st, we were all about games and sports. It is a well-known fact that staying fit and living a healthy life style is essential for a long, fruitful and productive life. A person who exercises and is physically active is less likely to suffer from heart diseases, obesity and other diseases and conditions that arise from eating and living an unhealthy life style.
