Dear all,
As 2019 draws to a close, WoMena would like to thank you for the year, that has been, and wish everyone happy holidays!

Looking back, there are many milestones to be proud of. From conducting research to leading workshops, WoMena staff and volunteers have been busy in 2019, working hard to promote innovative, evidence-based reproductive health solutions in low-resource settings.

To cap off a very successful year, WoMena was selected by the Reykjavik Global Forum to receive the POWER, TOGETHER award, given to organizations dedicated to destigmatizing periods and empowering women.

Highlights from Uganda:

WoMena formed several new partnerships in 2019. In addition to partnering with Ruby Life to launch a new menstrual health training toolkit entitled Me and My Cup: A Guide to a Happy Period, WoMena announced a new partnership with Save the Children International, Norad, and Clean Cup to pilot a menstrual health education project in two schools near Gulu, Northern Uganda.
WoMena Uganda was also busy conducting training sessions and workshops. In partnership with Family Health Options Kenya, WoMena held a 2-day menstrual health management training for youth advocates in Kenya. In August, WoMena staff trained an additional 20 girls as part of this initiative.
Meanwhile, in Buikwe district, WoMena hosted meetings with 1,657 parents as part of its school-based menstrual health management project. In addition, the WoMena team trained 1,714 female students and 1,125 male students on puberty and menstrual management.
In the Kyangwali and Kyaka II refugee settlements, WoMena staff, in partnership with CARE International, continued to provide menstrual health education and distribute menstrual products, with a special emphasis on male engagement in menstrual health discussions.

Highlights from Denmark:

In Denmark, WoMena staff, along with Nest International, conducted a 6-month menstrual health management pilot project for foreign female sex workers in Copenhagen, providing them with knowledge about menstrual health and introducing them to the menstrual cup.
In collaboration with the Danish Red Cross, the team also launched a pilot project on menstrual health management for asylum seekers.
A warm thanks

All of these accomplishments would not have been possible without WoMena's staff, members, volunteers, partners, and supporters. If you are not yet a member, we hope you'll consider supporting our work.

Support WoMena's work

As we ring in the new year, WoMena greatly looks forward to ongoing and new collaborations next year, and would like to extend its warm wishes for a safe and successful 2020!
