Springfield School

Friday 06 December 2019

Kia ora koutou,

Like a slow-motion movie scene, the end of the year is in sight. The children are doing well and are enjoying having some swims in the pool - despite the crazy weather this week. It doesn’t seem to bother them in the slightest.
In an attempt to keep it together, please try to have your children to bed earlier than usual for the next few days. This will help us keep them focused on their end of year production and following instructions.
We are doing full dress rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday so if there are any children who have not yet brought along their costume requirements, please have these in to school by Monday morning.

Some important notes for next week:

  • Can all raffle items please be delivered to the office on Monday at the latest.
  • For the prizegiving we ask each family to provide a large plate of food to share for the supper. These can be delivered to the kitchen in the hall
  • Children will need to be at the hall by 5.30pm. They will know which room they are getting ready in and we ask all parents to remain out of these rooms.
  • Prizegiving starts at 6pm
  • We respectfully request that all younger siblings remain on parents laps for the evening. If your younger children become unsettled, please take them out of the hall to settle them as it is difficult for our ‘actors’ to stay in character with too many distractions!

A huge well done to Jake Cleland and Georgia Johnson who represented Springfield School at the Canterbury athletics earlier this week. Jake represented us in the long jump and Georgia in the shot put. While neither of them placed on the day, they both commented positively about their experiences. Well done to you both.

Piwakawaka enjoyed a fantastic PJ day yesterday with some fort building in the morning followed by a very special lunch at the Yello Shack. Many thanks to Leisa Yaxley and her team for everything - the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

Have a relaxing weekend everyone!

Lost Property
The lost property box is very full.  If you are missing items, please have a look through the box before the end of term.

Library Books
There are still a number of library books that need to be returned. Please check at home to see if you have any mixed in with your children’s bookshelves.

School Accounts
These have been emailed out to families.  Thank you to the families who have already settled their account.  We would greatly appreciate all accounts being settled by Wednesday 11th December.

Classes for 2020
Next year we will be running 3 classrooms. These will operate as whanau groups and children will move fluidly around the school where their need is.  Afternoons will be back as whanau groups but as you all know we do a lot of across school learning, so plenty of opportunity for mixing it up!  If a teacher has spoken to you regarding potential movement of your child for next year, you may want to take some time over the holiday to chat with your child around this. Also, if you have already purchased stationery off the list please do not purchase any more, we will simply use what you have already purchased.

Back to School Stationery Requirements
We've collaborated with OfficeMax to make back to school easy!
Your child's school stationery list is already online at myschool.co.nz.  Simply search for Springfield School, select your child's class and follow the instructions on the website.  Or call 0800 724 440 or visit the OfficeMax store.

Please ensure all stationery items are brought to school on Monday 27th January 2020.

End of Year Prizegiving
This will be held at the Tawera Memorial Hall on Wednesday 11th December.  Start time is 6:00pm.  Please have children at the hall at 5:30pm.
There will be a later start time the following day (Thursday 12th December) at 10:00am but teachers will be at school as per normal.  Children are welcome to arrive at their normal time if required.
