This December 31st, let’s come together in the vibrant Main Street District at South Carolina’s largest NYE party!  Famously Hot New Year is South Carolina’s largest NYE celebration featuring a free, full-length concert starring Grammy-winning female rap duo Salt N Pepa.

City Center Partnership Celebrates its 18th Anniversary

City Center Partnership (CCP) celebrated its 18th Anniversary at its annual meeting and celebration. We had a wonderful time celebrating at the Columbia Museum of Art with all of our friends in the Main Street District! Thank you all for joining us at our 2019 Annual Meeting! We're already looking forward to next year!   CCP announced the election of the following officers:
 
  • John Griggs of Synovus Bank – Chairman
  • Sharon Bryant of First Citizens Bank – Vice Chairman
  • Jason Caskey of University of South Carolina – Treasurer
  • Heather Mitchell of Boudreaux Group – Secretary
 
The CCP Board also appointed new members to the board of directors. New board members include Amy Reeves of Hertz Properties, Raj Champaneri of Lexington Hospitality, Chad Elsey of Cantina 76, and John Andoh of the COMET. 

This year, the Chairman’s Award was presented to Rita Patel and Marcus Munse, co-owners of Hotel Trundle.

Watch for a new look for the popular Soda Cap Connectors this holiday season! The new look is sure to enhance the rider experience and exploration of downtown Columbia, West Columbia, and Cayce.

Inclement Weather Center is Open to Provide Shelter for Homeless Adults

United Way of the Midlands has partnered with the City of Columbia, Salvation Army, Transitions, and the COMET to open the Inclement Weather Center, to provide a safe place for adults experiencing homelessness to stay when winter weather conditions are life-threatening.  In general, the IWC is open any night between November 1 and March 31 when the nighttime temperature is forecasted to be 40 degrees or colder.   Daily opening announcements are available via Twitter (@UWMidlands) or signs posted at City Hall and the Main Library. Transport to the Center is available at COMET Central (Transit Station at Sumter/Laurel) from 5:45-7:00 p.m.

Share Your Holiday Food Drive and Visit with Santa

Thursday, December 5

A combined partnership with WACH FOX, Palmetto Citizens, iHeart Radio, and First Baptist is raising money for Harvest Hope Food Bank. They have a full day of activities including a live broadcast from their parking lot at the corner of Sumter & Washington Streets, visit from Santa, food truck rodeo, entertainment, and giveaways.  Their Holiday Food Drive is from December 5 – 21.
 
The food trucks will be set up in the parking lot of First Baptist Church from 11 am – 2 pm.  A portion of the food sales will be donated to Harvest Hope Food Bank!

First Baptist Columbia’s 32nd Annual Columbia Christmas Pageant

This annual event is one of the premier Christmas celebrations in the South!  The Columbia Christmas pageant is their gift to the community, and you can choose between four performances.  Admission is free but a ticket is needed to enter the church.  Tickets can be obtained by calling the FBC ticket office at 803.217.3250 or online at www.ColumbiaChristmasPageant.com.  Doors open 45 minutes prior to each performance.

66th Annual Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade

The 66th Annual Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade will feature magical entries from all across the state of South Carolina.  The parade will begin at 9:45 am.  WIS TV begins live statewide coverage of the parade at 10 am.  The parade will begin at Sumter Street and Laurel and proceed down Sumter toward the historic Horseshoe, ending on Senate Street. This year there will be some very special SC celebrities, new marching bands, drill teams, local churches, dozens of beautiful floats, and of course, the most exciting part of the parade – Santa Claus!

Who is City Center Partnership and the BID?
In 2001, City Center Partnership was formed to manage the downtown Business Improvement District in the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly and Marion streets in Columbia, SC. The organization provides public space management, economic development, place management, marketing services, and public advocacy for the Main Street District.
The Board of Directors oversee the organization’s mission — to focus on filling vacancies in commercial properties, retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean, and friendly downtown environment.
