Dear <<First Name>>

Advent is both anticipation and dread.

In New Zealand's, Southern-Hemisphere, Summer way of celebrating Christmas, the stress of winding up the year stands alongside glorious weather and people's plans to relax.

Over the Southern-Hemisphere Summer months, there may be some slowdown in material and speed of responses on the Liturgy website, but, as always there are lots of resources on the site that can help us individually and in our communities. Advent is always a season rich in resources and reflections.

Apologies: I have not (yet) found as much time as I had hoped to improve the look and functionality of the website. Don't forget the facebook page, the twitter profile, and instagram are integral to the online presence.

May God richly bless you and yours - and others through you,

Rev. Bosco Peters

Ancient Collects Reworked

It is great, week by week, to explore prayers that we have been praying together, often for well over a thousand years. Here's the prayer for this First Advent Week.

Let us pray (in silence) [that we long for the advent of Christ]

Pause

God of hope,
give us grace to cast away the works of darkness,
and to put on the armour of light,
now in the time of this mortal life,
in the which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;
so that on the last day when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal,
through him who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit now and for ever.
Amen.

And here is my commentary on that prayer.

Another NZ Prayer Book?

Eight years ago, a new version of A New Zealand Prayer Book He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa was about to be printed. I pointed out that its contents had not gone through the agreed processes, and the presses were stopped. I am very surprised to once again see promises of a new Prayer Book which does not appear to be being produced in our agreed manner. You can join that discussion here.

I'm told that if the image is still - it's a sign you are calm. If it moves a bit, you are stressed. If it moves fast - you are very stressed. Test it out...
Celebrating Eucharist is a free online guidebook to contemporary worship with resources you can use or adapt. It can also be used in discussion groups as well as individual reflection.

The Online Chapel is also a place to go for prayer, reflection, or just to light a digital candle.

Please pray for all who are part of the community around this website. And know there are people committed to praying for you.
