WiO board members set out to update our mission statement to align it with our current values, as well as to better coordinate efforts with our fellow OSC student clubs.

Mission Statement:
The mission of Women in Optics (WiO) shall be to promote awareness, build community, and improve the representation of diversity and inclusion within the college. The WiO group will: (i) provide intersectional support and community building for graduate and undergraduate students; (ii) improve awareness by building partnerships inside and outside of the university; (iii) confront sources of bias and inequality in the field.

October
In October, WiO collaborated with PAWS to put on fun optics demos for Girl Scouts of America.

November
November was a busy month for WiO outreach serving hundreds of students at three separate events!
WiO started the month right, participating in Caterpillar's Girls Experience Mining [GEM] Day, sharing optics demos with approximately 80 seventh and eighth grade girls. At GEM, girls from under-served schools experienced the variety of ways science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are incorporated into careers and the broad range of opportunities available to them.
In addition to GEM day, WiO outreach participated in Indigenous Day at Cholla High School as well as Community Connections.

December
With the ending of the semester, WiO members gathered to discuss our programming for next year! Take a look at our Upcoming WiO Events board for a sneak peek.
We are excited to announce that the 2020 Launching Your Career Symposium will be held on Friday, January 31th, 2020 in Tucson, AZ!
