Grades Second - Fifth

Kids Heart Challenge (formally Jump for Heart)

As part of Fitness Fever Month we will once again support the American Heart Association in grades 2-5. Throughout the month we will learn how to keep our hearts healthy for a lifetime and also improve our jump rope skills.  One way to support the cause is to know how to take care of your heart. It may be fun for you and your family to play Heart Bingo at home.  If your child returns this Bingo card  to his/her Physical Education Teacher, he/she will have their name entered in a drawing for a prize on January 30th.

Get a jump start! Take a moment to register your student online over break – upon registering your student can select their healthy challenge and share their page with others. Students who register and/or raise an online donation by January 9 will be recognized at the kick off.  To register, visit http://www2.heart.org/goto/Kennedy742

Snow Playground/Outside Play Requirements

With winter well under way, we want to take this opportunity to review winter clothing requirements when outside. With safety in mind, below are the requirements:
  1.  If you do not have winter boots on you must stay on the plowed areas (side walks and the tar where the basketball hoops are)
  2. Your body should only be in the snow if you have snow pants, jacket, hat, mittens/gloves and boots on.
  3. We are not allowed to throw snow at school.
  4. We are not allowed to go on the service road that separates the playground from the nature trail and garden area.
  5. The nature trail may only be used by students who have boots and snow pants on while snow is present.
*If you have financial difficulties and providing these winter items is not possible for your family at this time, please reach out to our main office and we can support your family with these winter items.

Special Education Paraprofessional Opening

Parenting Gamers

"Parenting rather than policing video games equips children to build good habits and a healthy relationship with digital media for when they leave home and parents aren’t around to enforce the rules. One challenge can be finding the kinds of games you want your children to play. There are good resources to help you with this. There are also websites that provide video game suggestions like AskAboutGames https://www.askaboutgames.com. Also, there are good Twitter accounts that help, like Wholesome Games (@_wholesomegames) and Non-Violent Game Of The Day (@NVGOTD)." excerpt taken from Andy Robertson, "Parenting Gamers".

Please consider helping your child's school with the Scholastic Book Fair coming February 4 - 12, 2020. There are many opportunities to help and we would greatly appreciate any time you can give to this fundraiser.  Last school year we were able to add $3613.42 worth of new library books to our library and  57% of our enrolled students made a Book Fair purchase.
Thank you, Mrs. Nelson, School Librarian/Media Specialist
