VMIAC Christmas message

Maggie Toko - CEO

Hello everyone,

I would like to wish you the most joyous time over this coming holiday season.  It has been an amazing year at VMIAC, and we have been very grateful that you have participated in a lot of our ‘goings on’. It has been full of activities, forums, surveys, round tables and the year isn’t finished yet.  It has been the year for Royal Commission’s and I believe that the most recent report to come down highlights that they have been listening to consumers voices.  I recognise that as festive as the season may be for some of us in our community for other people it is a difficult time.  At the end of our newsletter we are going to provide a list of venues that will be providing lunch on Christmas day.  I have worked for a number of years at different lunches put on by the Salvos and I have to say they are fantastic.  There’s always plenty of food and holiday cheer and a great sense of community.  Please stay safe and keep well.  VMIAC will be closed from the 25 to 2nd January.

Vrinda Edan - COO

Hi and happy holidays to everyone
I want to thank everybody for their support and involvement with VMIAC over this past year, and in particular their support for me in my new role here. It’s been a very exciting time and I know that 2020 will bring us many opportunities to further grow the work that we have been doing. I look forward to working with you all next year.
Have a safe and happy break and I hope that you get many opportunities to share time with the people that you care about.

Neil Turton-Lane - NDIS Manager

As Manager of the NDIS program and behalf of the NDIS Team of Advocates, Support Workers and NDIS Educators I would like to wish all people in contact with VMIAC a happy festive season and a wonderful New Year.
This year has been a challenging year for many consumers particularly around their access and use of the NDIS however we continue to hold hope that things are now starting to change for individuals and collectively as the NDIA finally begins to better understand the needs of people with a psychosocial disability.
Can I please pass on a big thank you from the NDIS team to all the members of the community who have engaged with our Advocacy and Support Services as well as lent their support to the important work  VMIAC  is doing in the NDIS education space it’s been a real privilege working with you all.
Special thanks must go to out to the wonderful members of VMIAC’s NDIS Critical Reference Group and all the other people who have participated in our NDIS Podcasts and Surveys. Together you have brought so much insight and expertise to the work that they we do. We are all very much looking forward to working with you all in 2020 and making this coming year the best year possible for all.

Neil

Frankie Freeman - Consumer Liaison Manager

Hi All,

On behalf of our advocacy team here at VMIAC, I'd like to wish you all the best over the holiday season and hope that 2020 brings you happiness and joy!
I'm finding myself reflecting on all the things 2019 has brought with it and am reminded of how incredibly thankful for the role that my tireless team and the entire VMIAC staff play in "fighting the good fight" for those with lived experience of mental health, and would extend that thankfulness to all of you out there. I am humbled every day in the stories of courage, persistence and strength I hear from our community and am extremely heartened by the commitment of those who are often in the most dire of circumstances to make a change for those who come after them.
So, as the year comes to a close, I'd like to thank you all for beating the drum of change and look forward to sharing the better future we are building together.

Frankie
