STOP BILL 156
On December 10 Toronto animal rights groups held an Emergency Rally to STOP BILL 156, the proposed legislation being called an ag-gag law as it would outlaw animal vigils and even blowing the whistle on animal abuse inside animal agriculture facilities. Please watch.
Toronto Pig Save, Animal Rebellion Turtle Island - North America, Animal Rights Toronto and Direct Action Everywhere Toronto converged on Queens Park for the rally just outside the Ontario Legislature.
Ontario residents: please contact your MPP and let them know that Bill 156 is wrong and it should not become law.
Watch this video for more in-depth information about Bill 156: "This is not what democracy looks like."

Our petition has already had some great news coverage:
In his article, New bill aims to hide animal abuse on farms, Thomas Walkom wrote in the Toronto Star, “"Emboldened by the success of ag-gag laws, two U.S. states — North Carolina and Arkansas — have moved to curb whistle blowers in other, non-animal, private businesses, such as nursing homes."
And this is a powerful op-ed by journalist Jessica Scott-Reid: Ag-Gag Laws Keep Animal Farming in the Dark and Diminish Public Trust

For the full petition update go here.

Please sign and share our petition, which has about 21,000 signatures: Stop Ontario's Ag Gag Law
Also on December 10, Guelph Cow Save and KW Animal Save held a vigil at the Cargill "Meat" Solutions slaughter plant in Guelph to bear witness to the cows and to protest Bill 156. The vigil was covered by the local news: Animal rights activists protest Bill 156 at Guelph's Cargill plant

Langley Pig Save held a vigil on December 11 outside the Britco "Pork" slaughter plant.

Toronto Pig Save's annual celebration and fundraiser, Animals Beyond Borders, was a happy occasion and also a time to reflect on the challenges ahead. The event raised funds for two well deserving sanctuaries: Ruby Ranch Pig and farm animal Sanctuary and FrogHollow Farm Sanctuary. We raised $4,000 to be distributed as follows: $2,000 to FrogHollow, $2,000 to Ruby Ranch, and in addition, we are donating $1,000 to Farmhouse Garden Animal Home sanctuary.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: "When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."

The Climate Save Movement is building a grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis by ending animal agriculture, reforesting the Earth and phasing out fossil fuels. Help save the planet by going vegan and promoting vegan #FoodSystemChangeNowThe climate crisis is upon us. We must rise up to mitigate and reverse it.

The United Nations' Climate Summit in Madrid, Spain, was held on December 2-13 and saw representatives from over 200 countries gather to discuss potential agreements on how to fight human-caused climate chaos. However, the results of the summit were not what the world needs.
Greta Thunberg put it this way: "It seems like COP25 in Madrid is falling apart right now. The science is clear, but the science is being ignored. Whatever happens we will never give up. We have only just begun."

Democracy Now's coverage includes excellent interviews from around the world: At Major March in Madrid, Indigenous & Youth Activists Slam Global Leaders for Climate Inaction
"The summit — known as COP25, or conference of parties — has so far focused on meeting the 2015 Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to “well below 2 degrees Celsius,” or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit. But climate scientists say the talks are failing to produce the drastic measures necessary to address the climate crisis. Since the Paris Agreement four years ago, greenhouse gas emissions have risen by 4%, and this year’s summit shows no sign of arresting that trend."

The Guardian: UN climate talks failing to address urgency of crisis, says top scientist - COP25 in Madrid criticised for focusing on details instead of agreeing deep cuts to emissions

The urgency of the climate crisis cannot be overestimated. The bad news keeps on coming:

OUR MISSION
Ditch Dairy SAVE Lives aims to encourage Save groups (existing and new) to hold vigils outside of dairy farms or factories incorporating outreach. Groups can also do outreach outside of establishments retailing large amounts of dairy products.
The Independent: Supporting the dairy industry inflicts more pain on cows than you know. And yes, that includes drinking their milk
"Does it really hurt a cow to be milked? Increasingly, the answer is yes. As a series of exposes bring the cruelty of the dairy industry to the public’s attention, more and more of us are realising milk farms are not only as cruel as meat –actually they’re far worse."

Welcome New Castle, DE Animal Save. Find them on Facebook and Instagram

They will be holding vigils against live exports.
This is their report from from the port: "She is on the Holstein Express. She has been on board since  December 8. 6 days on board before the journey across the sea even started. She is headed somewhere to be exploited for her body, her babies, her milk. She may not even survive the journey, as many live export victims die horrific deaths on the trip. If she reaches the destination alive, and if, for any reason, she cannot be exploited while living, she will be killed and cut up into pieces to be eaten, and her skin will be used to make products that aren’t necessary. She is a victim of live export. The Port of Wilmington has been quietly exporting live animals since 1987."

Augusta GA Animal Save held a 24-hour pre-holiday vigil on December 8-9 at the FPL "Food" cow slaughter plant, which kills an average of 1,400 cows  every day. As you can see in this video, a transport truck driver attempted to run them over while they stood by the road. Police were called and now the matter is in the hands of the law.
Augusta GA Animal Save will not be deterred by animal ag's violence. They are a busy group who often helps Save groups in other cities and states. Besides frequent vigils, they also helped organize:
Atlanta's VegFest on November 9
Atlanta Animal Rights March 2019 on November 10
----------------

North Carolina Farmed Animal Save turned 6 years old on December 13. "We are a small grassroots organization whose mandate is to be witnesses to the atrocities of animal agriculture, and to let people know what we know about animal ag in hopes that they will be moved to pivot away from eating animal products and making purchases of animal products."
This is their report from a vigil for the pigs on December 6: "We do not turn away from their suffering. We come as close as we can. We whisper words of love and comfort. And we watch them being driven to their terrible fates. Away away away from us, from people who care, from any possibility of life outside the factory system into which they were born. Shame on those who do such wrongs to other souls."
