Clinical Assistant Professor of Music Education, Non-Tenure Track
Qualifications:
The Music Education Program has approximately 80 full-time students earning undergraduate, masters, advanced certificate, and doctoral degrees in music education. Students pursue New York State licensure and certification as PK-12 music educators, or study to work in community music settings. The ideal candidate will be able to prepare undergraduate and graduate music education students to teach at the elementary, middle, and secondary school levels, supervise student teachers in field placements and develop students’ awareness of the nature, values, and best practices in community music. We are seeking candidates from a diversity of backgrounds with innovative and broad skill sets who can augment and extend the current strengths of the program, and who have a strong track record of teaching and administration in an academic setting.
Position Expectations:
Steinhardt seeks a dynamic Clinical Assistant Professor to engage in various aspects of teaching and administration. The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise (e.g. elementary music methods, secondary general music, popular music, intercultural music education, culturally relevant music pedagogy). The administrative role as Director of the Music Education Program includes student advisement and mentoring, hiring and supervision of adjunct faculty, and student recruitment and admissions, among other responsibilities. In addition, the candidate will participate in faculty meetings and serve on department, school and/or university committees. Ongoing creative activity in the field of music education is expected.
