I would be remiss if I didn’t begin by expressing a big Yasher Koach to the committee who organized a sold out Shabbat dinner last week! I continue to hear from people how warm and friendly our community is! Thank you!

Now all eyes are on vacation, and whether you are going away or enjoying a staycation, this time of year definitely affords us the opportunity to slow down a little and step out of the day to day rush that often consumes us.

In addition, it is also a great time to not only reflect on the miracles of Chanukah, but on one of the many messages of the candles, which is expressed so poetically and  poignantly by Rav Kook:

צריך שכל איש ידע ויבין, שבתוך תוכו דולק נר, ואין נרו שלו כנר חברו, ואין איש שאין לו נר. וצריך שכל איש ידע ויבין, שעליו לעמול ולגלות  את אור הנר ברבים, ולהדליקו לאבוקה גדולה ולהאיר את העולם כולו.

Every person must know and understand that deep within them burns a flame, and their flame is not the same as anyone else’s flame. And there is no person that does not have a flame. And every person needs to know and      understand that it is their job to work at and reveal their candle’s light to the public and too light with it a massive torch and illuminate the entire world!

May we merit to fan those flames in ourselves and in our children so that we truly fulfill our mission of being a light unto the nations – as an individual and as a  people!

We Need You - Join our Whatsapp group!
 
With the winter months ahead and Mincha/Maariv getting  earlier, we need your help especially to ensure that those saying Kaddish have a minyan. While we know that many people cannot commit every evening, if you live in the area you might be able to “pitch in” from time to time. The Rabbi created a whatsapp group  to help spread the word and ensure we get a minyan if we see we are going to be short.

THIS WEEK’S YOUTH SHABBAT ACTIVITIES

This week’s parsha mainly focuses on the life of Yosef. We learn about how he was favorite from all his brothers, who got so jealous they threw him into a pit and sold him to random travelers on their way to Egypt! Yosef was then sold to Potiphar. Potiphar’s wife wondered why Yosef didn’t like her, so she had him thrown in jail! Yosef interprets his cellmate’s dreams and is still left in jail. Just like in Yosef’s life, sometimes things are great and sometimes things are not so great, but no matter what we should always try to live our life to the fullest and make the most of our time here in this world.
